This week is Stress Awarness week and is part of the HSE’s Working Minds campaign. Throught the course of our lives and careers we will all be directly or indirectly impacted by one of the three major influences of Stress, Anxiety or Depression. To raise awareness and promote discussion the HSE are providing some excellent resources to help tackle what it a growing issue. As you will all know, it starts with awareness and an environment where people feel that they can talk. As part of this Veritas-FM is supporting the Working Minds campaign to support small businesses to recognise and respond to the signs of work-related stress. No doubt that by the end of this week we will all be more informed about the impact of change to all of our businesses. Setting aside the crystal ball, I am under no illusion that the cost of business just went up. Good morning. A lot of people ask me why "Veritas". In simple terms it translates to Truth or Truthfulness. When I started my business I wanted this principle to be at the core of what I did as it had been in my prior career. In a current climate where Truth, Honesty and Integrity can be seen as questionable within some of our more prominent public icons (no explanation needed), it became a topical subject along with one of many new and increasing phenomena like "Ghosting". Something as a Gen-X I am unused to, but seeing more of and actually had to Google. So, looking back on my own experience and training over the years I wanted to share a toolkit that I have used for many years and continue to use. Something that can shine a light on your own perception of those relationships that you deem as important. No "one-size-fits-all, or Silver-Bullet", but hopefully of use and insight. Good Morning. Change is something we are only too familiar with, but every Facilities Management contract goes through natural transitions across its term. Whether this is within service delivery or the customer / supplier relationship each situation calls for a different approach and set of skills. Challenges that every business face. Good Morning LinkedIn An important aspect of the work I undertake and my approach is that of evidence. Can I prove that I have made the correct decisions, can I assure customers and teams that things really are improving and if so, how? A recent article that I read focused on this very subject and it is one of many skills that I place a great deal of value in. Being able to support your standpoint with firm evidence and data must be a prerequisite. In an age where we are dripping in data, MI, PowerBI and so on, can we truly say that we are more informed. In a good number of situations that I have been involved with it is fair to say we have more data that ever but we are less informed. Wood for the tress springs to mind. Would you tend to agree? Good morning and welcome to Thursday. You may remember me posting a few weeks ago the need for business to correctly appraise and review their Business Continuity plans and Disaster Recovery arrangements before they are called into play. The events of the last few weeks have made this somewhat topical as I listen to organisations being severely impacted by the weather. I feel for those that have been impacted by the rain and flooding of late. In the attached article it outlines what I think we are all becoming only to accustomed to, and that is that the weather is getting more extreme and unpredictable. Economic pressures continue to drive organsiations to have to consider opportunities to scale back on what could be considered to be non-essential Maintenance or worse still, "run-to-fail". I have seen all of these implemented and back fire with nothing short of increased costs (usually in the months and years ahead), brand damage and reduced levels of safety. With a wide range of technological alternatives now available, the decision doesn't need to be....."to maintain or not to maintain, that is the question". 📅 Option No 1 - Do what you have always done, pay the price and get what you've always got whether it was a cost effective solution or not? 🤞 Option No 2 - Value engineer your PPM or essential maintenance on gut instinct / roll of the dice basis. Save the money now and pay later? 🎯 Option 3 - Introduce methodologies that can inform how you cost effectively make investment decisions on those critical activities, whilst avoiding cost. Yep, there is a way to achieve both! The third option can be easier than you imagine and help you make risk based decisions whilst still allowing you to save money. Right sizing you solution is on everyone's agenda. The topple of another major giant in our industry and the associated professions. Whilst it raises more questions than it answers, at the moment it’s hard to hear of such a large organisation falling on such difficult times. Having worked alongside ISG over a few projects my own personal experience was that they were a quality led organisation. I have said for some time have we really learnt the lessons from the Carillion collapse both in the approach to taking an initiative to market and how it is procured and awarded. I wish those who are impacted across the supply chain a speedy recovery.

Thursday Food For Thought! Good afternoon, well it’s that time of year again where you can’t help but notice the days shortening and the evenings getting chillier. I know, a cheery post for a Thursday. For some this time of year makes you think of things like warmer clothes, Halloween, Christmas (yes, I said it) and the joys of scraping the car in the morning when you’re already running late.
