Helping you craft communities and conversations that count ✨ Community Consultant | Event Host | Scientist | Mental Health Storyteller

Career breaks - let’s make it less uncomfortable to share them. Whether a month or 10 years. I would love to hear them. A couple of weeks ago I was fortunate enough to see two wonderful VSGDers Vets Stay Go Diversify! and good pals Claire Okell and Sophia Salmon Both diversifiers and mothers and really great eggs! I’ve just returned from a 6 month career break for health reasons and Sophia decided to take more time off to be with her children while they moved location. We both acknowledged the shame and confidence hit that it can take. And how few people we know that talk actually openly about their career breaks. We remarked on how sometimes it takes these breaks for great things and sometimes very hard things to make us realise we are more than our jobs! We also remarked on some great life skills and attitude changes that occurred in these periods of time that will definitely help the next squiggly career data point we want to light up! So we thought it would be great for others to share their breaks in as little or as much detail as they like and perhaps tips for returning to their careers. Let’s normalise gaps. Feel free to email ebony@vsgd.co to share anon that we can post in this thread too. There are some great examples in VSGD Careers that you can find here https://lnkd.in/ezNJbTEK And if you are a veterinary professional here we some helpful resources for finding your ideal workplace and more too https://lnkd.in/eduthipv And check out Amazing If resources regardless of your professional background PS: Sophia would be good to quiz for those vet pros that are looking for remote or hybrid roles as has worked for CENTRAL CPD LTD Vets Stay Go Diversify! and Flexee and she has been a vet in the Army and at a number of equine and smallies charities too, such as Brooke, Action For Working Horses and Donkeys #squigglycareers #careerbreak #vetlife #vetpassport
