If you're feeling anxious about your child's developmental milestones, here's some reminders to help you keep calm on this journey: - Every baby is unique: Each child has their own journey, and although it’s important to be aware of the ages most babies reach their milestones, comparing them to others around you can be misleading. - Appreciate today: Enjoy and celebrate where your baby is right now. You will never get this exact version of your child again, enjoy it while it lasts. - Know the guidelines: Be aware of general milestones for your baby’s age, monitor their progress, and seek advice if you have concerns. - You’re doing your best: You are doing the best you can with the knowledge you currently have. It’s natural to adjust your approach as you learn more and that ability to adapt and grow as a parent is what makes you a great parent. - Be kind to yourself: Self-compassion is key. Don’t beat yourself up about it, you are not to blame. - Floor play is fantastic: Unrestricted floor play is incredibly beneficial for your baby’s development. - Focus on additions, not subtractions: Instead of what to avoid, think about what you can add. For example, if using a “baby container”, which let’s face it is unavoidable in modern parenting, balance it with extra floor time. - Trust your instincts: If something feels wrong or you feel unheard, it’s perfectly okay to seek a second opinion, call Dr Nita and arrange an appointment to discuss your concerns.
