As some of you may already know, I am due to commence pupillage in October 2025, and have decided that this is a great opportunity to spend some time travelling prior to beginning my career at the Bar. Accordingly, I shall soon be departing from Vienna Kang Advocates, where I have been working as a Paralegal in the Crown Court department. The firm is therefore looking to recruit a new Paralegal/Caseworker, and I encourage those wishing to qualify as Criminal Barristers to apply. My time at Vienna Kang Advocates has been immensely helpful during my search for pupillage. In addition to being able to work on complex, varied, and interesting cases, I was given the opportunity to travel across the country to attend Court and assist Counsel. Not only did this provide me with excellent networking opportunities, but it allowed me to observe advocacy throughout every stage of criminal proceedings at the Crown Court, from PTPH to Trial. I have also been involved in the litigation of numerous serious cases, including proceedings before The Old Bailey. Additionally, the firm was very understanding during the pupillage application process, allowing me to take time to prepare for and attend interviews. Last night Iqbal Singh Kang hosted celebrations at The Ivy, Birmingham for our Beverley Rizzotto who leaves us for pastures new to begin a new role at the Solicitors Regulation Authority. Beverley joined our firm in January 2018 and over the last 6 years within the firm has been completely committed, loyal and dedicated to her role as a Criminal Duty Solicitor. Aside from being a fantastic lawyer, Beverley has done so much to help the next generation of young lawyers in her teaching role at the University of Wolverhampton. We would like to sincerely thank you for your contribution to our firm Beverley, and wish you the very best of luck in your new role. James Elvidge Secures Acquittal in Conspiracy to Steal Trial at Warwick Crown Court. The defendant was accused of conspiring with others to steal multiple motor vehicles over a four-year period. The prosecution relied upon thousands of pages of cell site and billing data. The inferences that the Jury were being asked to draw by the prosecution were carefully deconstructed by the defence so the defendant, after a three week trial, was unanimously acquitted. James Elvidge Secures Acquittal in Stranger Rape Trial at Derby Crown Court. The defendant was accused of raping the complainant at a party, having only met that evening. The defence was one of reasonable consent. The prosecution served vast quantities of third-party material that was subject to complex s.41 YJCEA 1999 applications to admin into evidence. HHJ Smith, the Resident Judge, stated that the cross examination of the complaint by Mr Elvidge was “one of the most sensitive and professional [he had] heard in years”.
