Despite the progress and scientific advances in HIV over the years, UNAIDS data highlights the sobering fact that more than 1 million people are newly diagnosed each year. Women and girls represent 44% of this number and in addition to this, are more vulnerable to HIV-related stigma, discrimination and in some cases gender-based violence. If we are to end the HIV epidemic, it is critical that we all play our role in tackling the challenges faced by the most vulnerable populations.
