Our deputy marketing director Emma Wilkinson was delighted to speak to AFP news agency's Maya Bradshaw on the growing #setjetting #screentourism trend - attracting visitors to a place based on showcasing destinations and experiences featured in #film and #TV shows and locations used in #filming. 🎞 📽 Our 'Starring GREAT Britain' global campaign, rolling out early 2025, will be harnessing the huge draw of #film & #tv to boost inbound #tourism to, and across, #Britain. By showcasing #Britain’s regional diversity through film locations and places 'seen-on-screen,' we're also inspiring visitors to explore further, boosting tourism across more destinations - supporting local economies. Our latest research, published earlier this month, shows #films and #TV are powerful motivators for travel: 91% of potential visitors we surveyed across 20 overseas markets were keen to visit #film and #TV locations used in filming or seen-on-screen during their holidays here in the #UK. As VisitEngland publishes its Bank Holiday survey - showing that 11 million Brits are planning a domestic break in the #UK for the long weekend, bringing an estimated £3.1 billion economic boost, it's a timely reminder of not only the huge economic importance of our amazing #tourism industry but also the incredible places we are so fortunate to have on our #doorstep. The industry will be looking to this long weekend for a critical late summer trading lift after what has been a mixed summer for many destinations. A few snaps below of places i've been fortunate to visit during the weekends this summer - from Visit Isle of Wight including to #Osborne House, Queen Victoria's summer residence (which truly feels like stepping back in time, as if the Queen and her children might appear at any minute!) to beautiful Aldeburgh, Visit Suffolk - there really is a destination to suit everyone and for all budgets. And all on public transport too. It was great for our UK-based team to catch up yesterday in our new Birmingham office. In the afternoon we joined our partners at Birmingham and West Midlands Convention Bureau for a fun and interesting walking tour through the historic city centre, home to event venues like The ICC Birmingham along with dozens of restaurants and attractions, all within easy walking distance. We ended with a tour and cream tea at the gorgeous and newly renovated The Grand Hotel Birmingham. Thanks for a great afternoon - can't wait to be back in Birmingham soon! 📰 NEWS: Results just in from our #August #Bank #Holiday 'trip tracker' survey - hot off the press. Indicates 11 million Brits are definitely planning an overnight holiday trip in the #UK this Bank Holiday weekend, bringing an estimated £3.1 billion economic boost. The figures show an increase of 1.3 million on last year’s results when 9.7 million Brits planned to take an overnight holiday trip in the UK during the August Bank Holiday weekend. Our CEO Patricia Yates said: “It is great to see so many of us are planning a domestic break this long weekend and will be out experiencing the outstanding destinations here on our doorstep. We know how important Bank Holidays are in bringing an economic boost with the money generated going into local economies and supporting jobs. Businesses will be looking to the long weekend for a critical late summer lift after what has been a very mixed summer for many destinations with cost-of-living concerns and the weather having an impact. This highlights the ongoing challenges for industry and the importance of extending the tourism season into autumn and beyond.” Press release here: https://lnkd.in/eTinV9S2 Nick de Bois CBE Victoria Borwick Andrew Stokes OBE Tracey Edginton Charlotte Sanders Rachael Farrington Lyndsey Turner Swift Debra Lang FCiPD Anke Monestel Beth Reynard Keri Portas Richard Nicholls Nicola Said Paul Szomoru Robin Tjolle Department for Culture, Media and Sport
