This week the Telegraph covered the findings from our MSK Hubs report and highlighted the potential for this pilot to help improve the health of the UK’s workforce. The report outlined that a record 2.8 million people are out of work because of long-term sickness, with almost half of these having a musculoskeletal health condition, such as back pain, arthritis or joint problems. By helping to scale this model nationally using the UK’s gyms, pools and leisure centres, the Government could drastically reduce pressures on the NHS by allowing patients to manage conditions that might otherwise require appointments with orthopaedic consultants. It would also ensure that patients struggling with conditions like knee arthritis or lower back pain are able manage their pain, allowing them to remain in work while they wait to see a specialist. The Department for Health and Social Care commented: “The Government is exploring ways of further supporting people with health conditions and disabled people to improve health outcomes, reduce inequalities, and help them to get into and stay in employment. We welcome this report and will consider its findings as we develop this work.” To read the article, click here: https://lnkd.in/eid7AM-8 Good Boost Orthopaedic Research UK ESCAPE-pain Arthritis Action.
