What. A. Day. It’s been an amazing day today. I facilitated a participant led ‘unconference’ in North Somerset including community members, professionals and volunteers from councils, NHS, charities and community groups to name just some, as part of the launch of the region’s first ‘State of Ageing Report’, which I had the privilege to be commissioned to write. Working with Voluntary Action North Somerset , who commissioned this work has been a joy. They know what they want, they accepted my people centred proposal, and as a local charity they had the foresight to see the potential for impact of this sort of work. They invested their own funds in this work as they see the value for the public and for local systems - incredible. We talked about what’s needed, what works, shared ideas, insight, and stories, and everyone in the room made a concrete commitment to take action. Very cool, very inspiring, very awesome. Thanks Dr Mandy Gardner and Kirsty Staunton (also Woodard) for placing your trust in me, and being the most wonderful clients. Now for a loong train ride home and lots of reflection. (PS - if you want help listening to your community to influence change, I have some capacity from January and would love to chat!)
