Skills for Care has published the latest version of their annual State of the Adult Social Care Sector and Workforce in England report. The data shows improvements in the workforce for the second year - with more filled posts, fewer vacancies, the lowest turnover since 2014/15 and a record number of men working in the sector. These improvements were mainly driven by international rather than domestic recruitment - and there is evidence that the supply of international recruits is declining. Responding to the report, Rhidian Hughes says: 'A sustainable solution to the sector's workforce challenges, will not be possible until local authorities fully cover the true costs of #SocialCare support.' Our full statement on the report can be found here: https://lnkd.in/epqimWRp

Ahead of the #Budget, VODG has written to the Chancellor urging investment in #SocialCare and essential VCSE support for disabled people. ‘The government will not be able to meet the growing demand for social care, or realise its growth, employment rights and wider economic ambitions without a thriving third sector.’ https://lnkd.in/eEYUmUdB

Coverage in The Express following our fringe meeting last week at #LabourConference24 Great to have had the Minister in attendance and sharing Labour’s commitment to bring about change for the autistic people and people with a learning disability in Assessment and Treatment Units, and at risk of being sent to one because the system is failing them.
Good to see new Disability Minister Stephen Timms recognising this and looking to address it. For too long, Government as seemed to ignore the 2000 people with a learning disability and/or autistic people stuck in mental health hospitals despite not having a mental health issues. Reforms to the Mental Health Act will help to reduce new cases, but there has to be a commitment to get everyone else out into community settings with the right social care package. Hopefully, now we will see progress after years of delay. #HomesNotHospitals
