🚶➡️SENSATION Started Sensing! 🚶♀️ I'm excited to share that project #SENSATION, has officially entered its data collection phase. 🎉 Last week, we captured vibration response data from our first test participant at the cutting-edge VSimulators facility! This ambitious project aims to evaluate pedestrians' responses to vibrations—a vital step in understanding human comfort during active posture in vibrational environments. A big thank you to James Bassitt and Messay Garry for all the support during data collection and Katy Manning for coordinating everything so efficiently. Grateful for the invaluable insights from Stana Zivanovic, Genevieve Williams, and Bintian Lin throughout this phase of the project. A special thanks to our first test participant for their voluntary participation! Stay tuned for more updates as we continue our research! Our Senior Experimental Officer recently completed a training course covering essential 3D CAD skills in order to upgrade his design work for projects using VSimulators. https://lnkd.in/gxmGBjYn
I’ve just completed the 4-day SOLIDWORKS Essentials course in Chepstow, delivered by Solid Solutions. The training covered essential 3D CAD skills, including sketching, part modeling, assemblies, and drawings. The course was delivered exceptionally well, with our trainer making complex concepts clear and practical. These new skills have already helped speed up my workflow, allowing me to create detailed models more efficiently and accurately. This will be a real asset in my design work, especially for developing innovative solutions for the vSimulators facility and other upcoming projects. For anyone interested in the course, you can check it out here. https://lnkd.in/eAiHVCvr #SOLIDWORKS #3DCAD #Design #Innovation #SkillsDevelopment

🚀 New Project Announcement! 🚀 We're pleased to announce that we are kicking off a cutting-edge project in collaboration with Translational Research Fellow Sonia from the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (BRC). Mind the Gap aims to explore how individuals respond to challenging situations by studying postural responses in immersive environments. Senior Experimental Officer James Bassitt said: "VSimulators combines biomechanics, psychology, and engineering, offering unparalleled insights into human behaviour. We’re leveraging this state-of-the-art facility to better understand balance control, with potential applications in healthcare, ergonomics, and beyond. "A huge thanks to the brilliant team and the support from the NIHR Exeter Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) for making this project possible." Stay tuned for updates on our progress! 🔗 Learn more about the project here: https://lnkd.in/e8V_WBdr #vSimulators #Research #MindTheGap #HumanBehavior #Biomechanics #NIHR #Exeter

We hosted engineering A-level students from all over the South West in a schools outreach visit. In sessions led by our Senior Experimental Officer James Bassitt and Experimental Officer Garry Massey, students experienced being on a train and a boat via our moving floor, explored underneath the platform and took part in three group tasks using the sensors and force plates.

Congratulations to Nimmy, who used our facility for her PhD research, to explore the dynamics of rhythmic jumping subject to vertical vibrations, and who graduated this week
🎓 Thrilled to announce that I have graduated with a PhD in Engineering from the University of Exeter! 🎓 My thesis, "Dynamics of Rhythmic Jumping on Vertically Vibrating Platforms," explores the fascinating interactions between human motion and structural dynamics. This journey has been both challenging and rewarding, pushing the boundaries of our understanding in this niche yet impactful area of study. Conducting my experiments at the world-class and unique VSimulators facility at the University of Exeter was an incredible opportunity, providing the perfect environment for my research. A heartfelt thank you to my incredible supervisors, Prof Stana Zivanovic and Dr Genevieve Williams, for their unmatched guidance and support throughout this process. I also extend my gratitude to my examiners, Prof Aleksandar Pavić and Dr Vitomir Racić, for their insightful feedback and rigorous evaluation of my work. Love and thanks to my husband, Nirmal Jith O U, for his endless support and encouragement. I couldn't have done this without you. I would also like to express my appreciation to my group members, Dr Sigong Zhang and Dr Bintian Lin, for their support throughout this journey. Additionally, my thanks go to James Bassitt and Katy Manning for their invaluable support. Here's to new beginnings and exciting opportunities ahead! #PhD #Graduation #Research #Engineering #Biomechanics #StructuralDynamics #Vibrations #CivilEngineering #UniversityOfExeter #VSimulators
