"The best way to predict the future is to create it." Golf has made strides in becoming more inclusive, but real progress requires action. Brandie Deignan, ED&I Board Lead at Wales Golf, is optimistic about the sport’s future - while acknowledging that meaningful change won’t happen unless organisations take deliberate steps to break down barriers. Wales Golf is doing just that. From initiatives like New2Golf, which introduces newcomers to the game, to Girls Golf Cymru, which creates a welcoming environment for young female golfers, the organisation is actively working to make golf accessible to everyone - regardless of age, gender, background, or ability. ✅ Engaging youth through the Youth Golf Panel. ✅ Providing accessible coaching via the Insport programme. ✅ Listening and learning from diverse voices through the Living Experience Network. Golf’s traditions are valuable, but they must be balanced with innovation and inclusivity to ensure the sport thrives for future generations. As Deignan says, we can envision a better future for golf, but it’s up to us to make it a reality. • Midnight Ramadan Golf: Best practices for running inclusive initiatives 🌙🏌️ During Ramadan, practicing Muslims abstain from food and drink from dawn to sunset, making traditional daytime sports schedules impractical. That’s why we introduced Midnight Ramadan Golf - a late night initiative allowing Muslim golfers to play, practice, and connect after Iftar, in a welcoming environment. Since launching in 2022, attendance has grown each year, with over 100 participants taking part in 2024. But success didn’t come from just this - it came from listening to the community and ensuring every detail was inclusive and meaningful. In our latest thought leadership, Dan Jakeway, our Participation Coordinator for South West and Mid Wales, shares insights into our successful programme and offers advice for those looking to replicate it. #EveryonesGame https://lnkd.in/gUH5KKh5

Participation Pathways: Wales Golf 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 Brandie Deignan, ED&I Board Lead at Wales Golf, is optimistic the sport's future will be more welcoming and inclusive – but admits nothing will change if nothing changes. As the mother of twin boys who started playing golf a decade ago when they were six, Brandi Deignan has had plenty of first-hand experience of the environments the sport is played in. So when Wales Golf invited her to join their board with a remit to tackle equality and diversity she was excited to put her experience into action.
