MAKING WAVES: Black Leaders In Tech 🖤 Episode 2 🎬 I sat down with Dorothy O., a DEI advocate to discuss how DEI is shaping the success of businesses 👇 ⭐️ Managing diverse teams, and ensuring cultures are inclusive to diverse people is going to be the make or break on how well a business performs ⭐️ 💡Innovation and Creativity: Diverse teams bring a variety of perspectives, experiences, and ideas. This diversity can lead to increased creativity and innovation, helping businesses develop unique solutions and products. 🧩 Enhanced Problem Solving: Different viewpoints can contribute to more effective problem-solving. Teams that include members from various backgrounds are often better at identifying potential issues and developing comprehensive strategies. 😅 Improved Employee Satisfaction: An inclusive culture promotes a sense of belonging among employees, leading to higher job satisfaction. When team members feel valued and respected, they are more likely to be engaged and productive. 🚀 Attracting Talent: Companies known for their diversity and inclusivity can attract a wider pool of talent. Candidates often seek workplaces that align with their values and where they feel they can thrive, leading to better recruitment outcomes. 🔥 Market Competitiveness: A diverse workforce can reflect a broader customer base. Understanding different cultures and demographics can help businesses better serve their clients and improve customer loyalty. ⭐️ Enhanced Performance: Research consistently shows that companies with diverse teams and inclusive practices tend to perform better financially. Diverse organisations are often more adaptable and ready to meet changing market demands. 🤝 Compliance and Risk Management: Building inclusive teams can help mitigate risks associated with discrimination and bias, enhancing the organisation’s reputation and ensuring legal compliance. So don't wait for 2025 to start actioning your DEI initiatives when hiring and retaining talent, drop me a message and our team here at Wave Talent, can help set you up for success. It's what we do! 💙

The podcasts are back! 😆 🎤 Really enjoyed this morning's pod with David Sealey where we dived into all things strategy, growth, and transformation. VML MAP's approach to transformation is fascinating. Aside from walking away with enough book recommendations to last me the year 😂 a few key takeaways stood out: their human-centric approach, a strong focus on long-term growth, and the importance of becoming a better listener. This often-overlooked skill is essential for truly understanding business needs—and, by extension, the drivers of successful transformation. Keep your eyes peeled for more 👀 #digitaltransformation #transformationleaders #letsgetdigital #digital #businesstransformation

In a recent podcast with Daisy Perryer and Ash Roots, Ash shared one of his analogies: think of change like fixing a radio. Without knowing how it works, you won’t know which part to adjust. You have to understand the mechanics before making improvements! A common challenge in leadership is the urge to implement change without truly grasping the existing landscape. While change is vital, moving too quickly without understanding the core elements can set you up for failure. Effective leadership isn’t just about driving action—it’s about making thoughtful, well-informed choices. #DigitalTransformation #MakingWaves #Recruitment

A common pitfall I see in leadership is initiating change before fully understanding what’s being changed. While driving change is crucial, rushing into it without grasping the foundations often leads to failure. It’s not just about momentum; it’s about making informed decisions. For those who know Ash Roots you’ll know how much he loves a good analogy. Take the radio, for example: without understanding its components, you can’t effectively modify or improve it. You need to know which parts to unbolt first! Like if you agree 😄 #DigitalTransformation #DrivingChange #letsgetdigital #transformtationleaders

Black History Month 2024 is here and at Wave we are taking the this time to celebrate and educate all in line with years theme of Reclaiming Narratives 🧐 DEI is a huge part of our company culture and this month is no different. Our DEI Lead Ben will be taking the reins as we look to shed light on the strides being taken by Black Leaders across the Tech industry and within the Wave Talent Team, championing those who are pushing for change everyday. As Ben states 'As a collective, we need to unite to educate ourselves on the whys and hows and celebrate the whens and whos 🤝'

🖤 1st October 2024 - 31st October 2024 Black History Month 24; Reclaiming Narratives which focuses on the importance of owning and redefining the stories that shape Black identities and histories. Whilst I wholeheartedly agree that we do not need 1 month as a token gesture focussed on trying new dishes or carnival-themed parties 🙄, I want to use this time to educate and celebrate instead. Why? 👉 Various reports suggest that the representation of Black professionals in the UK tech workforce remains below 5% 👉 The proportion of Black professionals in leadership roles in tech continues to be a concern. 👉 There has been a notable uptick in initiatives to increase diversity in tech, including mentorship programs, partnerships with educational institutions, and specific hiring initiatives targeted at underrepresented groups. 👉 Reports have indicated that Black entrepreneurs still face significant barriers to obtaining venture capital in the UK.  👉 There have been ongoing efforts to encourage more Black students to pursue degrees in STEM fields, with organisations promoting tech education in schools and universities. 👉 Discussions around pay equity continue, with trends suggesting that Black professionals in tech earn less than their counterparts. There's evidently a mountain of work to be done, and change won't happen overnight. However, it starts with one and ends with everyone. As a collective, we need to unite to educate ourselves on the whys and hows and celebrate the whens and whos 🤝 This month at Wave Talent, we'll be educating our network in the tech space on diverse investment opportunities, celebrating black leaders in the tech industry who are making a conscious effort to support and champion our own internal talent who stand up and show up every day 👏 You can't change history, but you can make your own story 💫
