Look out for A4 notices at the end of a route... It could be notification of a Definitive Map Modification Order #DMMO. This is a legal order to change the status of a way, to remove it or divert it. Many of these go unnoticed. When they do, the public can lose rights that have existed for centuries. Nothing to do with #Halloween ‼ One of the more unusual #roadsigns you may come across on either the surfaced road network or on a recreational highway. We don't know anywhere this one is used - do you? This means "No vehicles carrying explosives" #KnowYourSigns #RightsOfWay #HighwayCode

A tranquil green lane through the countryside. Once upon a time, all roads would have been similar to this. They would have remained largely unchanged for tens, if not hundreds of years. Then, along came tarmac and motor vehicles... Most #greenlanes got covered in a solid black veneer but a few kept their historic character. Those that exist need preserving by occasional vehicles passing to keep them free of encroaching vegetation. #RightsOfWay #countryside 

Mileposts are a familiar sight throughout the UK. They are also strong evidence of a carriageway...a road for vehicles. People just didn't erect mileposts on footpaths! #RightsOfWay #coutryside #milepost #milestone
