Ahead of International Women's Day tomorrow, our team is standing together in support of gender equality. 💪 Among the friendly faces below, you’ll find reflections on what IWD means, the strength of the women who come before and after us, and the importance of lifting each other up. 💜 Earlier this week, we hosted a panel discussion featuring our women partners, followed by an internal women’s networking event. 🤝 The panel shared their experiences of facing and challenging gender bias, supporting one another, and ensuring the next generation has even greater opportunities. See our top 4 takeaways from the discussion here 👉 https://lnkd.in/eP-7cqTB. #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #AccelerateAction #InternationalWomensDay

We're delighted to have been at L.E.A.D. Academy Trust's Finance Directors Networking Forum in Nottingham yesterday! 😊 As a leader in internal audit for education, our team was represented by Neil Clark and Andrew Thomson. They both enjoyed catching up with some of our current clients (including LEAD Academy Trust) and speaking to potential new clients. 🤝 It was a great lineup with sector updates from Bobby Thandi and other sector consultants, including finance, risk management and sector procurement. 🙌 PS. Hope you all managed to grab a phone stand. They're pretty good if we do say so ourselves!

As we approach International Women’s Day, to help #AccelerateAction for gender equality, we’re empowering our people. 💪 We hosted an inspiring panel discussion and women's internal networking event yesterday with our women partners to share their experiences of systemic barriers, passing the torch and having it all. Our incredible panel featured Victoria Kirkhope, Claire Dalrymple, Catherine McManus and Catherine Livingstone. 🤩 Here are 4 key takeaways from our panel: ✅ Gender bias has been deeply ingrained over generations. We need to continue to courageously address long-standing biases that can still exist today. ✅ It takes courage to challenge bias. Sometimes, simply asking someone to repeat themselves can be enough to highlight and address it. ✅ To accelerate change, we must continue to support talented women in achieving their full potential. Mentors, role models and male allies all play a vital role in this journey. ✅ Establishing non-negotiable personal boundaries, saying no when necessary, and prioritising our wellbeing are essential steps to achieving our goals and realising our aspirations. A big thank you to our HR team, Victoria Kirkhope, Elaine Neilan and Niamh Smart, for organising this event and to our people who joined the conversation. 🙌 Let's continue to push forward together and Accelerate Action. 🤝 #IWD2025 #GenderEquality #AccelerateAction #WomenInLeadership

Are you affected by the McCloud remedy? 🚨 Doctors affected by the McCloud remedy should review their tax position upon receiving their Remediable Service Pension Savings Statement (RS PSS), due by March 2025. 💬 Alison Webster, Director in Wbg’s Business Advisory team, comments: "Doctors need to consider the McCloud remedy carefully as there could be a tax liability they’re not aware of, or it could be that they had a tax liability that’s now decreased or disappeared. Everyone’s situation is unique, so I’d recommend seeking a consultation with a professional adviser to determine your tax position." 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eeDdqhU3

The Financial Reporting Council is aware of concerns over the availability and cost of audit services for SMEs. 💬 Sandy Hogg, External Audit Director, says: "A statutory audit can pose many problems to SMEs, but the biggest, in my opinion, is finding the auditor with the correct skills, level of resource, and available timings to satisfy the client requirements at a viable fee level." With the FRC examining how the audit market serves SMEs, attracting and retaining top talent is a core priority at Wbg. This focus improves audit quality and delivery speed and enhances client service. The FRC is inviting all interested parties to submit comments and evidence on the SME market study by 25 April 2025: https://lnkd.in/e5ZxvjKs 🔗 See Sandy's comments: https://lnkd.in/eb9yEVJT

Did you miss the Self-Assessment deadline? Don't ignore it - take action now! ⏳ Taxpayers who missed the deadline already face a £100 penalty, even if they owe no tax. Plus, daily interest will accrue on any outstanding tax at 7.25% annually. Unpaid tax from 2023-24 left outstanding by 1st March may also incur a 5% surcharge. 💬 Gavin Brown, Senior Tax Manager, advises: “If you have missed the 31 January filing deadline, or if you think you should be doing a tax return and haven’t registered, then acting as quickly as possible is always the best option. HMRC is on hand to work with people who can’t pay their taxes on time, so long as they are upfront and deal with it rather than ignore the problem that’s brewing.” 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eTmubTU7

Company directors should be aware of the risks of ‘phoenixing’ and improper corporate rescue schemes. ⚠️ Failing to handle a struggling company correctly can have serious consequences, including disqualification and personal liability. 💬 Craig Allison, Associate Director in our Insolvency team, warns: “Simply abandoning a company with mounting debts is likely to be looked upon dimly by the Insolvency Service. If the Insolvency Service is satisfied that there has been misconduct on the director’s part, it has powers to disqualify individuals from acting as directors and issue compensation orders. Make sure that the person you are dealing with is professionally qualified and from a reputable firm." 🔗 Learn more: https://lnkd.in/dv9YVrvD
