As the young ones say, I was “today years old” when I learned about the Phelophepa train in South Africa 😳 what an impressive initiative! The Transnet-Phelophepa trains are free, mobile healthcare clinics that travel to areas of rural South Africa, where there is just one doctor for every 5,000 patients. Phelophepa (pronounced рау-lo-pe-pa) means "good, clean health" and is owned and operated by Transnet Foundation with Roche being Phelophepa's main external sponsor since the first train journey in 1994. The train has been referred to as the "train of hope" because it brings essential medical services, including primary healthcare, dental care, eye care, and psychological counseling, to remote parts of the country. There are two Phelophepa trains, and each is equipped with healthcare professionals and volunteers who provide these services to thousands of people every year. This is clearly a vital initiative! Thank you, Transnet and sponsors. Here’s to more Phelophepa trains, in South Africa and the rest of the continent. More of the same please! #Phelophepa #MobileClinic #Healthcare #Africa

It was mandated by the slave owner that only one breast could be used to feed the white child. if she switched up and let both black and white babies suckle from the same breast, she could be whipped. The Power of African Tales is being unleashed by Kunda Kids, bringing African storytelling to a global audience. Co-founders Louisa Kiwana Olafuyi and Oladele Olafuyi have cracked open the treasure chest of African narratives, inviting children worldwide to explore its dazzling content. The Art of Cultural Alchemy  Kunda Kids blends ancient wisdom with modern wonder. Picture a young girl in Lagos, her eyes wide as she hears about Anansi the Spider, or a boy in Kampala, laughing at a mischievous monkey. These stories are stardust woven into the fabric of childhood. The Joy Quotient Learning: Kunda Kids is a carnival ride Their stories loop through savannahs, dive into oceans, and soar over mountains. When kids read about Queen Amina of Zazzau, they’re riding a dragon across time. That’s pure magic. Beyond ABCs: Life Skills Unleashed  Kunda Kids teaches ABCs and Emotional Quotient. Kids learn empathy from talking animals, courage from brave explorers, and resilience from unlikely heroes. These aren’t just bedtime stories; they’re life lessons whispered by the wind. Storybooks: Portals to Adventure  Their storybooks are portals. Open one, and you’re in the Kalahari desert with a lion cub. Turn another, and you’re sipping tea with a wise tortoise in the Sahara. These books teleport. The Kunda Kids App: Where Pixels Spark Imagination  The Kunda Kids app lets kids explore virtual savannahs, solve riddles with talking baobabs, and learn resilience from a pixelated sun. It’s not screen time; it’s soul time. So, dear reader, next time you tuck in your little one, consider this: You’re not just reading a story; you’re stitching constellations. Each word, a star. Each page, a galaxy. And Kunda Kids? They’re the cosmic storytellers, whispering, “Dream big, little one. The universe is listening.” Check out latest episode of Kunda And Friends on their YouTube channel https://lnkd.in/dT6Hgn3j #portco #improbablestories #edtech #media #africa #uganda #nigeria #uk Kunda Kids Kunda And Friends Louisa Kiwana Olafuyi Oladele Olafuyi Jemimah Atim ODBA

Anyone who knows me knows I’m fascinated, maybe even obsessed with leadership and leaders. This is why I was so glad to do a report on Musician and Businessman Stormzy‘s opening of his Merky FC HQ. Let’s be clear, he doesn’t have to do this. Like Marcus Rashford and Raheem Sterling, they're essentially doing the government’s job for them. With youth clubs no more, this space not only keeps young people off the streets of Croydon, it gives them vocational experience and pathways to employment in creative fields. With faith on the floor, that a likely incoming new government will do little to help young people, the power is with the people (and the corporates who want to do) and also is. Leadership, unfortunately has to come from the bottom up, rather than top down.
