It’s #ChallengePoverty Week 2024, and young women in Scotland are feeling trapped due to the rising cost of living. In our latest research, we partnered with the Scottish Women's Budget Group to ask young women in Scotland about their experiences of the cost-of-living crisis, and here’s what we found out: 📉 65.7% of young women surveyed told us that felt financially worse-off compared to this time last year. 🏠 32.7% currently find their housing costs unaffordable. 🍝 74.2% of young women are cutting back on food expenditure by limiting the types of food they buy, and nearly 1 in 4 have skipped meals due to the rising cost of living. 👕 26.7% of young mothers are unable to afford replacement clothes or shoes for their children, and 66.7% are unable to afford replacement clothes and shoes for themselves. 🧠 70.6% of young women told us that rising costs have impacted their mental health and wellbeing. What can we do about it? Read the findings and recommendations in our new report: https://lnkd.in/eaViV_sx #CPW24

This #ChallengePoverty week we are calling for everyone in Scotland to have an adequate income. Delivery of a minimum income guarantee will pull people out of poverty by ensuring they have enough money to live a decent and dignified life, free from poverty.

Today, Carnegie UK are proud to join Wellbeing Economy Alliance Scotland (WEAll) and over 130 organisations calling for The Scottish Government to support Sarah Boyack's Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill. We believe that this Bill could help Scotland make headway with the biggest challenges of our time. The Scottish Parliament should get behind Sarah Boyack’s Bill because the only way we’re going to tackle issues like climate change or child poverty is through thoughtful action, co-ordinated across government and the wider public sector. https://bit.ly/4epaLpG

Scotland's Wellbeing Framework - the National Performance Framework - is failing to shape government policy as it could and should. In this publication supported by Carnegie UK, Dr Max French of Northumbria University sets out six steps that the Scottish Government could take to allow the National Performance Framework to achieve its potential: 1️⃣ Complete the journey from a National Performance Framework to Scotland’s Wellbeing Framework. 2️⃣ Make the NPF the lynchpin of a renewed Scottish Public Service Reform Programme. 3️⃣ Reframe accountability and scrutiny relationships around the revised NPF. 4️⃣ Introduce new duties for public bodies - in return for new powers. 5️⃣ Use the revised NPF as a tool for direct democracy. 6️⃣ Review the NPF's integration, not just its content.
NEW REPORT! We’re pleased to share new insights published with Dr Max French, Northumbria University on how to improve the effectiveness of Scotland’s National Performance Framework. There’s a huge opportunity to make government in Scotland significantly more effective but changes must be made. We identify 6 key actions The Scottish Government must take to strengthen its approach. Find out more: https://lnkd.in/expc592c
