The rumours are true. Crowdbacker is back. We are returning on 2nd April, and we'd love you to join us... The pandemic exposed deep racial and economic inequalities and, last summer, fascism once again reared its ugly head on Britain’s streets. Through Crowdbacker, we’ve raised thousands for social ventures over the years. Now we’re turning its focus to another problem: social entrepreneurship is deeply inaccessible to Black and Asian founders, and other people of colour. Join us at x+why’s People’s Mission Hall in Whitechapel on the evening of Wednesday 2nd April to experience the thrill of live pitching and pledging — emceed by Year Here Fellow and Member of Parliament, Josh Babarinde OBE CF MP. In partnership with The Funding Network and Black Funding Network, we’re helping these ventures scale their impact to the next level 🚀 Back social ventures led by entrepreneurs of colour from the Year Here family. 🎟️ Grab your ticket : https://lnkd.in/eBSAGvYz  👀 Keep in the loop (you'll be the first to find out the ventures): https://lnkd.in/eHautHp3 ✍ Comment if you're already coming! ♻️ Repost to help spread the word - let's get launch these founders to impact!

  • Shout out from an organiser 💚 We're still growing, and not ashamed to admit it. But.. lots of exciting things are a coming too 👀 Thank you Luciana Alemanno-Frankson for posting an event! Promote your events through 4GOOD here: https://lnkd.in/dAfutT4J 🚀

I came across this message while browsing 4GOOD, to submit our "𝗕𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗱" monthly meet next week (link in comments, 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘬 𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘬..)  It’s not every day you see such an honest and open note from a founder—especially one working to create positive change for people and the planet. I have met Fran Harris, PhD, and I could tell how much passion and effort has gone into this. If you’re looking for sustainability-focused events or want to support an impact-driven initiative, check them out! The more visibility they get, the more likely they’ll secure funding and keep growing. Let’s help good things happen 🤗 #Sustainability #Community #Impact #SupportGood

  • The secrets out - how do we keep our event emissions so low... Read it from Fran Harris, PhD our founder ⬇️

Last week, someone asked me - "how do you keep your event emissions so low?" At 4GOOD, we run community-led, grassroots events, as sustainably as we can. In fact, our emissions are 75% below the UK average per attendee (a stat I'm pretty proud of). Of course, 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁. Some rely on big builds, long-haul travel, large-scale production.. reducing emissions for these is more of a challenge. But 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝘀, it's possible to run events MUCH more sustainably. The focus is on simplicity, reusing, and carbon-savy switches. ......................... Here are 5 ways we keep our event emissions 75% lower than the UK average per person: 🌱 1. Plant-based or vegetarian food only Food is a huge emissions driver. A plant-based menu can cut the carbon footprint by up to 80% compared to meat-heavy catering. 🚆 2. Venues near public transport We’re based in London, so this is easier - but we choose venues where attendees and staff can travel by tube, bus, or trains. ♻️ 3. No/minimal merch or builds No unnecessary freebies, giveaways, or one-time-use merch. We reuse, borrow, and only buy as a last resort. ⚡ 4. Venues with renewable energy When possible, we choose venues powered by renewables - reducing the carbon impact of lighting, heating, and AV equipment. 🚮 5. Zero-to-landfill waste policy We reuse, recycle, and donate wherever possible. Leftover food is given away. Materials are repurposed for future events. ...................... Sustainable events don’t have to be expensive or exclusive. We’re not perfect, but this approach works. Importantly, we measure our event emissions where we can so we can keep tracking and understand how small choices add up. ♻️ Repost to help others rethink event sustainability. ................ 👋 I’m Fran Harris, PhD, founder of 4GOOD, sharing real-world insights on sustainability and stories from my social enterprise. Hot off the press 🗞 - Reality Check on Micro-Events; Sustainability is not (yet) the priority, research led by 4GOOD. As sustainability gains momentum, large companies dominate. But what about the smaller players? At 4GOOD, we work alongside event organisers from charities, social enterprises, and small businesses, and we wanted to explore the unique challenges they face. Our 2024 report, based on in-depth research with organisers and attendees, sheds light on these struggles—and how the current sustainability movement may leave some behind. Download the full report here, or drop a comment and we'll DM you a copy: https://lnkd.in/ek35nXdi Let us know what you think! Thank you to everyone who participated in the interviews and survey, and to everyone who contributed to this research - Tabita Bobs, Bryonie Mathews, Fran Harris, PhD, Rabeena Raveendrakumar, Rosie N.
