Alongside various learning sessions and challenges, they took to the streets to capture our symbol of love and unity. There was a post by Emily Wurramara over the weekend that really struck a chord with the WeAre8 team and exposes what so many endure online each and every day. 😢 A social home should lift you up, not pull you down, when it stops doing that, we have to ask ourselves why we are still here? I’m posting this on here to spread awareness of the racism within this industry and in this Colony. I’ve Been told to kill myself at least 10 times this week via socials. I’ve had to go in and delete comments manually because some of them are VERY disturbing and distressing to read. This is the amount of racism every black person in this industry gets when we have some sort of success, well anything really. Mind you all I did was sing a cover of @hozier for @triple_j. This is what First Nations people all over the world have to put up with. How do we make this space safer? How do we feel safe as a mob? It shouldn’t be my responsibility. I apologise to any mob who are triggered by these words. I won’t stop and I won’t back down. If anything it’s ignited me to go harder and be louder. Loving the inspiring energy of sport to elevate people last week. And two incredible moments for WeAre8 where our community is changing the world through sport. The Common Goal Football for Sustainability Summit took place in Berlin. Juan Mata and Rio Ferdinand, take to the stage to discuss the positive impact we can make when we come together. The Brisbane Lions have cancelled the membership of a disgraced footy fan who racially abused Adelaide Football Club star Izak Rankine over social media during their AFL clash on Sunday. “Racism is unacceptable.
