Myself and the Human Native AI Native team are heading to South By Southwest this week. Yesterday, I spoke to Sky News about what the future looks like for AI and creatives. Here are a few key takeaways from our discussion: 1) Legislation alone won’t solve this. The UK government’s proposed copyright changes may have a limited impact. What we really need are better licensing frameworks that work in practice. 2) The future of AI must be built with creatives in mind, not at their expense. Artists, musicians, and writers deserve to benefit from AI, not just be a free resource for it. 3) Many AI companies want to do this the right way. We are working with those who are willing to license high-quality data, but the current processes are too complex and full of friction. We need to make it easier for them to access premium content fairly. I’m an optimist about the future of #AI. But we have a duty to build a future where we don’t exploit industries that provide the very information that are the building blocks of these powerful products.
