🚀 The Future of North East Creators 🎙️ At North East Creators, we’re on an exciting journey to build a creative hub for the North East that fosters collaboration, growth, and innovation. Our direction is clear: to address the key challenges faced by the region’s creatives and businesses by providing a platform that connects, empowers, and showcases local talent. 🎯 Our Mission: • Connect creatives and businesses through a unique podcast and networking platform. • Empower individuals with the tools and resources they need to grow their careers or businesses. • Showcase the incredible work being done in the North East’s creative industries. 🔑 Why This Matters: • Fragmentation in the creative sector is holding back potential. Many creatives work in isolation, without the connections or visibility needed to thrive. • Limited access to resources and professional development opportunities stunts growth for smaller creative enterprises, as highlighted by studies from Creative Industries Federation and Creative England (Creative UK) • Visibility challenges make it harder for local talent to reach wider audiences, as reported by North East LEP 🌟 Our Solution: Through our platform, we’re building a central hub that brings together podcasts, networking events, workshops, and educational resources. We’re creating a space where creatives, entrepreneurs, and businesses can: • Share insights and stories. • Build lasting partnerships. • Learn and grow together. 🎧 What’s Next: We’re actively seeking local creatives and businesses to take part in upcoming podcasts, events, and collaborations. If you’re passionate about shaping the future of the North East’s creative industries, we’d love to hear from you! 👉 Join us on this journey and help drive the growth of the North East’s creative community. Together, we can unlock the full potential of our region’s talent. #NorthEastCreators #CreativeCommunity #Direction #Podcast #Networking #Collaboration #Growth #NorthEastEngland #CreativeIndustries

Over the last two years, colleagues at Durham University have been working hard to help grow our Arts & Humanities research impact in new and innovative ways. Recognising the knowledge, insight, and creativity of academic colleagues across our disciplines, we developed our Impact Catalyst programme to help activate that potential. We worked on three key strands of activity: research commercialisation, building impactful partnerships, and evaluation (often overlooked but so essential in understanding the changes we affect). We've developed and piloted new approaches to SHAPE commercialisation, rooted in design models, which have lead the development of pragmatic methodologies that deliver for researchers, partners, and wider society. We've grown partnerships with organisations like PROTO and Elysium Theatre Company, and taken our long-standing partnership with Blackfriars Restaurant in new directions. Our academics have submitted applications to Northern Accelerator, and were the first Arts & Humanities academics to be awarded funding through the programme. We've also produced a new evaluation toolkit to help us understand how our work is changing things in the wider world. The project was led by Professor G.E.M. Gasper, supported by me and my fantastic colleague Lizzie Ranson, whose commitment and expertise has driven forward this ground-breaking work. We were in turn supported by Dr Naomi Willis (from our nationally recognised Commercialisation and Economic Development Team), entrepreneurial guru Dr Laura B., evaluation expert Dr Ladan Cockshut, and were supported along the way by Beth Cronin and Isobel Rooke from our Marketing and Communications directorate. None of this would have worked out without the engagement and input of our academic colleagues, and the folk in the Arts & Humanities Research Hub - sincere thanks to everyone involved. The Impact Catalyst shows what we can achieve when we collaborate across university teams: that's not as easy as it might sound sometimes, so shout-out here to RIS Managing Director Lorna Wilson and A&H Executive Dean Professor Janet Stewart for fostering a culture that encourages it. It also shows just how much potential we have for the future - check out the video from our visit to PROTO earlier this year to get a flavour of what we've been up to, and what the future might hold.
