Today marks the beginning of Black History Month 2024. Throughout October we will be embracing the theme of "Reclaiming Narratives" working alongside our EmbRACE ERG to share the stories of our people past and present, plus the often untold success stories of brilliant black engineers and inventors. Menaka S., our EmbRACE Chair, told us: "At RS, we celebrate by reflecting on and honouring the richness of black culture, achievements, and contributions to our society and workplace. Through Black History Month we have a unique opportunity to make a lasting impact. Reclaiming narratives is not just about telling our stories; it’s about taking control of the narrative itself. It’s about ensuring that black history is told with the respect, dignity, and accuracy it deserves. "Black history is not just something to remember; it is to pass on to the next generation with pride. An amazing Wellness Day hosted by RS South Africa brought the spotlight to health and well-being! ❤️ The event featured top-notch experts, with Discovery offering health assessments, Lyra providing holistic wellness insights, and Investlife sharing financial health tips. Virgin Active led fitness routines, and optometrists conducted eye exams. 🙌 Colleagues took part in chiropractic consultations, breast exams, prostate screenings, a refreshing pilates session, and relaxing massages from One Stop Wellness therapists. A fun highlight was the smoothie bike, where employees pedalled their way to tasty, nutritious drinks. 🚲 🥤 RS South Africa, People Team Lead, Dineho Moleke, shared, "At RS South Africa, we prioritise the health of our employees because we believe that a healthy workforce is essential for a thriving organisation. Today is World Heart Day, a day to raise awareness and help prevent the world’s biggest killer, cardiovascular disease (CVD). Combined, conditions affecting the heart or blood vessels – such as heart attack, stroke and heart failure – kill more than 20.5 million every year. Earlier this year the quick thinking and brave actions of Jackie MacDonald in our Corby warehouse helped to save the life of her colleague Terry Allen after he collapsed at work. Terry was in the middle of his shift when he started to feel hot and sweaty, before experiencing severe pain in his chest. He said: "I was aware there was something serious going on but because there had been no prior signs, I didn't think it was a heart attack." Jackie spotted that Terry was in distress and sprang into action, calling an ambulance and trying to make sure he was comfortable. She said: “I took one look at Terry and asked him what his symptoms were but suspected straightaway he was having a heart attack because my husband, John, had one six months earlier.” When Terry stopped talking, it was clear that he was having a heart attack, so Jackie and the team prepared to use the on-site defibrillator. She said: "I stuck the pads on Terry's chest, the machine spoke to us and told us it was going to shock him and that's when reality hit. “It then asked me to start compressions, so that's what I did. After three rounds of compressions, Terry sat bolt upright, so we put him in the recovery position and waited for the ambulance to arrive. "It was scary but I'm just thankful that RS has defibrillators. If it wasn't for that, it might have been a different story". The ambulance arrived and took Terry to the hospital where he received additional care and was fitted with a stent. The paramedics commented that if it wasn’t for Jackie and the team taking decisive action, he may not have survived. Terry said: “If I hadn't been at work, I wouldn't be here today. I live on my own and there wouldn't have been anyone around to help me. The fact RS had the foresight to have defibrillators on site, it saved my life.” Defibrilators are absolutely vital tools to help protect colleagues suffering cardiac arrest. We are proud that RS has many of these machines across our sites. 80% of premature deaths from CVD are preventable. By making small changes to our lifestyle – what we eat and drink, how much we exercise, and how we manage stress – we can better manage our heart health and beat CVD. #WorldHeartDay #WHD24 #WeAreRS

Last month, RS Integrated Supply's corporate office in Radnor, PA hosted their second "Wash Day" in support of The Washing Machine Project and the Stenton Family Manor. Thanks to the incredible volunteers, a whopping 717 lbs of laundry was washed! 🌀 Not only that, but they also raised money in advance to purchase school supplies like backpacks, pencils, and folders for all 70 children living in the shelter. This recent effort provided families with clean clothes and essential supplies for school. ❤️ “Imagine not having clean clothes for yourself or your children,” shared volunteer Kathy Grant. “We washed dozens of stuffed animals, made our hearts melt.
