Considering a career in tech ❓ Many tech professionals, particularly those from non-traditional educational backgrounds, break into the industry through self-learning 👩💻👨💻 There are plenty of online platforms offering accessible and affordable resources that allow aspiring developers to learn at their own pace 🖥️ And it’s a popular choice 🙌 A recent Stack Overflow developer survey found that around 27% of developers consider themselves self-taught, while 33% say they learned through a combination of formal education and independent study 🌟 Vindico developer Alice M.’s journey into tech included plenty of independent learning. Meet the team 💜 Rory Durrant is a software developer at Vindico ICS Ltd who takes care of the behind-the-scenes work that keeps our applications running smoothly 📲 Rory first joined the Vindico team as a placement student as part of his university degree 👨🎓 He's now been with us for a total of two years, with a gap-year in between to finish his studies 📝 “I was looking for a Year in Industry placement and Vindico came up on LinkedIn. Vindico was one of the only local tech companies looking for a placement student. I popped CEO Jo Polson a message, and the rest is history! Immediately after starting and meeting the team, I knew it was a good place to be. The welcoming atmosphere and exciting projects sealed the deal for me,” says Rory 💬 Fast-forward to today ⏩ As part of our dev team, Rory now works on the backend of our applications, writing code, creating APIs and services for our frontend applications, and working on the infrastructure that makes our applications run smoothly and securely 🔐 He’s currently working on the backend of a top-secret project for a global sports brand, but we can’t say any more about this 🤫 “Every week is different and exciting. The dev teams are always here to help and support you, and it's a great environment to learn and grow in. It’s also a constantly changing environment, and there's always something new to learn about. It keeps the job fresh and exciting,” adds Rory 💬 Like many of our dev team, Rory can’t get through the day without good coffee and music to keep him focused and in the zone ☕️🎧🎶 And when he’s not at Vindico, Rory’s either outdoors walking, playing video games, or working on his own coding projects (or, what he calls “a good balance of outdoor activities and tech-related hobbies that keep me energised!”) 🚶🎮 #Team #Tech #Developer #Careers
