Myself and Russell attended a 3-day First Aid course last week lead by instructor Stuart Clowes at Safeaid!⛑ 🏥 What a brilliant experience! Stu is very professional, and his knowledge is invaluable, he made us feel very welcome and relaxed, as all courses, they are very daunting at first! Leaving the course we have learnt so much and are confident in using our first aid skills when necessary. The course equipment varied and allowed us to practice on different scenarios to get a real life experience! Thank you Safeaid, would definitely recommend to anyone looking to train their employees! #firstaid #firstaidtraining #CPR #safeaid

Here we have a selection of servo motor units. The large servo motor is a new unit which will be used in a steel processing plant, the 5 smaller servos are a selection of old units that have come to our workshop for inspection assessment and or repair. This image highlights the fact that not only do we supply new servos for existing motors as a spare, but we have the capability to select new servo packages and also offer to repair old existing motors. Here we have a selection of carbon brushes that are currently out ready for delivery to the customer. These particular ones will be used on a crane application. For those of you who don’t know exactly what they are for or how they work, you may find the following information of particular interest:- Carbon brushes play a role in the operation of various electrical machines, serving as a critical component that facilitates the transfer of electrical current between stationary and rotating parts.   Carbon brushes are primarily composed of carbon and other materials carefully chosen to meet specific performance requirements. The main component, carbon, is selected for its unique properties that make it an ideal material for electrical contact applications. The carbon used in brushes is typically in the form of graphite, which offers low electrical resistance, excellent conductivity, and self-lubricating properties.   To enhance the performance of carbon brushes, manufacturers often incorporate other materials into the composition. Metals such as copper, silver, or alloys may be added to improve conductivity and heat dissipation. The careful balance of these elements results in a carbon brush with optimal electrical and mechanical properties.   The primary function of carbon brushes is to establish and maintain electrical contact between the stationary and rotating parts of electrical machines, such as motors and generators. As electrical current flows through the brushes, they transmit it to the rotating component, enabling the conversion of electrical energy into mechanical motion.  With generators, the brushes collect electrical energy generated by the rotation of the machine.   One key aspect of carbon brushes is their ability to withstand the demanding conditions within electrical machines.   Brushes operate in environments with high temperatures, varying loads, and sometimes aggressive atmospheres. The composition of the brushes must be tailored to endure these conditions while maintaining consistent performance.   Carbon brushes are subject to wear and tear. The wear rate depends on factors such as load, speed, and the environment in which the brushes operate.   Regular maintenance, including monitoring brush wear and replacing them, when necessary, is crucial to the reliable operation of electrical machines. Neglecting this aspect can lead to increased electrical resistance, reduced efficiency, and even damage to the machine.   We supply a wide range of carbon brushes here at Webb-Elec often on very short lead times and all DC motors that come in for repair have their brushes changed as part of our standard maintenance service. #carbonbrushes #electricalengineering

Great news this week as our MD Julian Webb gives a warm welcome to our second new apprentice starter, Daniel.   Daniel has always wanted to start a career in engineering and the wide variety of repairs that come through our door each day really cemented his desire to join our company when he attended for two trial days earlier this month. Dainel is very excited to start his apprenticeship with us and begin his career in the engineering industry. Here at Webb-Elec we fully support and help all our employees grow and reach their goals. His first week has been challenging which he has really enjoyed trying his hand at welding, balancing and general fitting skills working on 3 phase motors and gearboxes. He has a very strong work ethic and a good sense of humour, fitting in well with the rest of our team. On the football front, Daniel supports his home country, the Hungarian national team. Daniel can speak various languages such as Hungarian and Danish and is now working on the very specialised Black Country dialect!! In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, travelling, and also building Lego. Lego building seems to be a very popular hobby with our employees especially Jobey Godfrey which must be down to their enthusiastic engineering mindset.  #recruitment #mechanical #team #expanding #apprentice

Today we say farewell to Gareth who at the tender age of 67 is embarking upon his retirement. 👏 ⭐ Gareth joined us 2 years ago as a skilled engineer and he has been a very valuable team member in his short time with us. He has a wealth of electrical & mechanical experience particularly in the healthcare industry where he has been invaluable assisting clients and helping our younger team members with his extensive knowledge. We would all like to wish Gareth the very best for his retirement and to enjoy some peace and quiet away from the hectic schedule of an engineering support workshop. Well done Gareth, you’ve earned it! #engineering #retirement #team
