Life and sight for every child
About us
Curable eye cancer kills and blinds thousands of children each year. We bring life and sight saving opportunities to children worldwide by educating the public and medical community to achieve early diagnosis; empowering sustainable, high quality, evidence based medical care; and enabling family support programs that reduce burdens and improve access to care. Our Values (the child first – always, excellence in evidence based care, collaboration and sustainability) guide all we do. We take bold, informed risks to protect and promote the complete wellbeing of children, families and survivors. We pursue our goals with conviction, courage and integrity. We unite and inspire all stakeholders to champion every child’s right to special care and protection, quality medical treatment and good health, survival and dignity, love and understanding. All team members in Canada, the UK and USA are dedicated volunteers. Most are parents of children treated for eye cancer, adult survivors, or both. Our International Medical Director is Prof. Brenda Gallie, Director of the Retinoblastoma Program at Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. World Eye Cancer Hope was inspired by two young girls from opposite ends of the world who never met, but whose paths twined through cancer. Daisy travelled to Canada for treatment in efforts to save her last seeing eye. When she returned to England in 2004, her family gifted money from The Daisy Fund to help Rati, a little girl from Africa whose cancer threatened her life. When Rati died in 2006, we began tackling the challenges that cause children in developing countries such great suffering. Daisy’s courage and wish to share hope helped Rati leave a legacy that has already saved many precious lives, creating light from the darkness cancer brought to both their lives. We have established WE C Hope in the USA to begin addressing the many challenges American families encounter in the fight to save their child's life and sight.

Thank you to our friends at Know The Glow for releasing your own #OneRbWorld2024 recap blog! We couldn't be happier that Megan Webber, founder of #KnowTheGlow, participated in a panel titled “Know the Glow Around the Globe" during our conference, where she shared the stage with Dr. Andrew Blaikie and Karsten Paust from the Arclight Project and TanZanEye. You can read the blog here here: https://bit.ly/3Yp40xj "Earlier this month, Megan Webber attended the One #Retinoblastoma World Conference in Honolulu, Hawaii, and left feeling more hopeful than ever about the future of #EarlyDetection and global collaboration in retinoblastoma awareness. The event brought together an incredible array of voices—including parents, survivors, #oncologists, #ocularists, and researchers—united by a common goal: improving the detection, treatment, and support for retinoblastoma patients and their families worldwide. The conference was a resounding success, highlighting the unique challenges and achievements of people from across the world working to combat retinoblastoma, a rare form of #EyeCancer that typically affects young children. It created a platform for diverse perspectives, with participants sharing their experiences, challenges, and aspirations for the future of retinoblastoma care." #ChildhoodCancer #OcularOncology #PediatricOncology #Pediatrics #ChildhoodCancerResearch #ChildhoodCancerAwareness #IntegrativeMedicine #IntegrativeOncology

🌟✨ This past week I had the absolute honor of speaking World Eye Cancer Hope and One World Retinoblastoma Conference. Amongst one of the talks, I was a part of was introducing my doctor, Dr. Carol Shields, chief Ophthalmology Oncologist at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, PA. Not only is she responsible for my life, but for saving eye. It truly was an honor and a dream to introduce her to speak. Her expertise and dedication in the field of ocular oncology have made all the difference in my battle against cancer—not once, but twice. 🙏 Your compassion and relentless pursuit of innovation in treating ocular melanoma and retinoblastoma have inspired me and countless others. You’ve not only fought for my vision but have also given me hope and strength when I needed it most. Let’s spread the word about eye health and the importance of early detection! Together, we can make a difference. 💚 #OcularOncology #CancerWarrior #Inspiration #OneRBWorld2024

We can't stop reminiscing about #OneRbWorld2024!! To kick off the conference last week, we took a “3 hour tour” around #Waikiki, #DiamondHead and beyond with the energetic and educational Waikiki Trolley team. A quick stop at the deliciously tropical Ululanis Shave Lapahulu for some #ShavedIce 🍧 and then it was a twisty turvey, awe-inspiring drive up the coast. Thanks to all the families, friends, first-time conference attendees and long time supporters who joined us to soak up the warm Hawaiian trade winds and schmooze during this joyful afternoon. It was the perfect start to what turned out to be an unforgettable week of connection, learning, and fun. 🌟 "R" is for Referral, the next letter in our 2024 #AlphabetOfHope! Referral is the crucial first step when a child is suspected of having eye cancer, or when a survivor faces a second #cancer. Awareness of signs and symptoms alone isn’t enough—having a clear, supportive diagnosis pathway can save lives. Discover more in our latest blog: 'Referral for Possible Retinoblastoma or Second Primary Cancer.' https://bit.ly/3Zc1WuE ⬅️ Many parents and survivors report signs of #retinoblastoma or related cancers to primary care providers. Timely referral ensures a faster diagnosis and better treatment outcomes. In this blog, World Eye Cancer Hope CEO Abby White shares who needs referral and when, along with the essential steps of an effective referral process. 📷 Image Description: A blue and white compass sits on a beige background.
