We provide specialist care to adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support their loved ones.

About us

Weldmar Hospicecare is an independent charity that provides specialist end of life care for adults in Dorset with a life limiting illness, and support for their loved ones. Our job is to support people in Dorset affected by cancer and other life-limiting diseases, largely at the end of life. We work both with patients and their families. We also provide respite services for people with complex long-term progressive conditions. As the only specialist agency in the area we also educate our colleagues in primary care and the acute and independent sectors on how to deliver high quality generalist palliative care. Patients in north, south and west Dorset have a seamless service, whether they require care and advice in the comfort of their own homes, in the Wellbeing Centres or the inpatient unit at Joseph Weld Hospice. We use doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, a chaplain, complementary therapists, art and music therapists, social workers, bereavement workers and over 250 patient care volunteers to do our work.

  • A huge thank you to the staff from Countrywide Grounds Maintenance who kindly donated their time recently to volunteer with Weldmar Gardener Andrea at our Inpatient Unit in Dorchester. Andrew Diment, Operations & Office Manager at Countrywide Grounds Maintenance said “There are some of us who know more than too well what Weldmar have done for people so to be able to help them with an area within the grounds of the Hospice in Dorchester was so rewarding for us as a team. We would encourage any local business to give whatever support they can to this amazing organisation.” Read More 👇 https://lnkd.in/eyzjuijU

  • Stampede by the Sea, Weldmar's Wild in Art trail, begins on 28th March. Is there a generous local company or individual that could donate artificial grass to be used on our plinths? (It would make our elephants much more comfortable). We have eleven plinths left to cover, and they are 1600mm long by 1000mm wide. If you haven't heard about the Stampede, take a look at www.stampedebythesea.org 🐘 Please email stampede@weld-hospice.org.uk if you can help out. Thank you!

  • We're proud to have collaborated with 142 other hospices from across the UK to launch a new campaign - This is Hospice Care. It's all to help raise awareness of what hospices do and the difference we can make to those in our care - both patients and loved ones. Weldmar, just like our fellow hospice care providers, rely heavily on charitable donations to keep our doors open. In our case, just 17% of our income is from the NHS, leaving us needing to raise £27,500 every single day to keep our services going. That’s why we’ve come together to shine a light on the essential role hospices play in our communities and protect our futures. The campaign asks everyone to consider leaving a gift in their Will to a hospice close to their heart, or their local hospice. By doing so, you can help us continue to provide this vital care, ensuring that everyone has the support they need for generations to come. Together, we can make sure that hospice care lives on for all, for now, forever.
