West Mercia Search & Rescue

Powered by a team of unpaid everyday heroes, West Mercia Search & Rescue drop everything to save people in danger in your community. We are called out by the Police and Fire Service whenever help is needed to locate missing and vulnerable people in Shropshire, Herefordshire or Worcestershire. Nobody in our team is paid for their time, and every single volunteer willingly gives up countless hours to search for people at risk. Our team all have normal lives and normal jobs but choose to do extraordinary things without any motivation for personal gain as soon as they are called upon. They are the very definition of the word 'Superhero'. Although we are all unpaid civilians, we are audited by multiple agencies to ensure that our training, equipment and response is as reliable as the emergency services themselves. As a registered charity, we solely rely on funding from our supporters and sponsors. Every penny raised for us goes towards funding our operations and running our operational rescue team. ☞ We find missing people, we save lives in floods, and we respond to emergencies. ☞ We find people who are at risk from mental ill-health, physical injury, hazardous terrain or water, and ensure their safety. ☞ We are the only search team working across the whole of Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire. ☞ We are the only Lowland Rescue team in the region. ☞ We are the only resource in the region with quad-bikes to help in large-scale searches. ☞ We are the largest free resource the emergency services. ☞ We have been called out over 120 times (2016). ☞ Our average callout lasts 9 hours and 45 minutes (2016). ☞ We average 100 training sessions per year. ☞ West Mercia Police deal with nearly 2000 missing people every year. ☞ We donated around £270,000 of man hour value to West Mercia Police since 2013.
