About us
The West Riding County Football Association is the governing body of football in the county. We are one of the largest county football associations in the country and oversee all aspects of the game in our territory. We are responsible for providing the structure and support that enables our players, coaches, volunteers and referees to develop. Our utmost priority is that every participant in our county is given the opportunity to develop in a progressive and enjoyable environment. In addition to our governance responsibilities, we concentrate heavily on the development of the local game and maintain a strong emphasis on the evolution of players, coaches, volunteers and referees. By promoting “Football for all” we encourage participation across all sections of society, regardless of age, ability, race, religion or socio-economic status. By developing innovative programmes and cultivating opportunities in alignment with our governing body (The FA), we deliver the national game strategy in our county. We are also immensely proud of our thriving culture throughout the non-professional game, a sector widely referred to as “Grassroots” football. As a county we believe it essential to uphold our traditions and embrace the legacy of our past. However, we are very much a progressive County FA who are happy to celebrate our history without residing on it. Although the West Riding County Football Association has been the governing body of all association football in the County for over 100 years, today we are an energetic, innovative and ever changing organisation. We remain as passionate as ever about the success of football in the county

Celebrating Community and Understanding at Our Iftar Event Last night, we had the pleasure of hosting an Iftar dinner at West Riding FA, bringing together representatives from our local grassroots clubs, staff, and directors for an evening of connection, conversation, and reflection. Beyond sharing a meal, this event provided a unique opportunity to engage in open and meaningful discussions about the experiences of Muslim players during Ramadan. Around the tables, we explored how clubs and leagues can better support their players during this important time, fostering a deeper understanding of the considerations that can enhance inclusion within our game. At its heart, football is about community, and last night was a perfect example of how coming together in an open and welcoming environment can strengthen the bonds that unite us. The positive feedback from those in attendance reaffirmed just how valuable these moments are—not just for learning, but for creating a sense of belonging. A huge thank you to everyone who joined us and contributed to such a special evening. Let’s continue these conversations and ensure that football in West Riding remains a space where everyone feels seen, heard, and supported. #WestRidingFA #Iftar #Community #Inclusion #GrassrootsFootball Hannah Simpson Jo de Tute Measha H. A Busy and Inspiring Weekend for West Riding FA! Incredible showcase of community, inclusion, and football across West Riding! Our journey began on Thursday evening, as our CEO Hannah Simpson ED&I Lead Ashraf Wallace and Director Siobhan Atkinson were honored to attend an Iftar dinner hosted by Asma Iqbal from Chadwick Lawrence LLP It was a fantastic evening. On Friday evening, we were once again welcomed into the community as our CEO and ED&I Lead attended Leeds Maccabi’s annual Shabbat after an invite from Charlie Rosenberg. Sharing these moments of faith and celebration with our diverse communities is a vital part of our commitment to inclusion. Friday night saw us hit the pitch to support the Ramadan Midnight Leagues. Our CEO Hannah Simpson was in Bradford presenting awards, while our Head of Football Development Jo de Tute was in Dewsbury, where both attended inspiring female-only games. These sessions offer a safe and welcoming space for women to enjoy football during Ramadan—a true testament to the power of inclusive sport. We rounded off the weekend on Saturday night at the men’s 4th annual event, where our ED&I Lead Ashraf Wallace proudly presented the winners’ trophy. Congratulations to everyone who took part and made the event such a success! We are immensely proud to support and celebrate diversity through football. Thank you to everyone who made this weekend so memorable! #Inclusion #Community #FootballForAll #WestRidingFA
