“You’ve given me back my independence, my dignity and my self-esteem.” Disabled Facilities Grants can make all the difference to people’s lives so they can carry on living in their own home rather than having to go into care or hospital which can be devastating for them and their families. We’ve already been recognised as one of the fastest local authorities in the country in terms of how long it takes us to approve a full grant application and how long it then takes for the work to be completed. As well as supporting people’s dignity and independence, our work means people are less likely to have to go into care or be admitted to hospital, which reduces the impact on health and social care costs and frees up critical bedspaces. The work is a key component of the council’s Housing, Homelessness Reduction and Rough Sleeping Strategy which is due to be discussed by Council on 19 November. Brenda, Bob and Marilyn are among the hundreds of households we have helped across West Suffolk in the past few years. You can read more on their story at https://lnkd.in/ee4P-tfj And find out more about Disabled Facilities Grants at https://lnkd.in/eitVR4x9 #independentliving #healthandsocialcare #housing #healthandhousing #housingstrategy #westsuffolkhousingstrategy

We're excited for the completion of the phased opening of the new Personal and Professional Learning centre at Provincial House in Haverhill on 4 November. It follows £2m of investment by West Suffolk Council which owns the building. The new centre run by West Suffolk College part of the Eastern Education Group supports our own strategic priority for sustainable growth by bringing adult education and skills back to the high street and additional footfall to the town centre to the benefit of local businesses. Our Cabinet Member for Resources Cllr diane hind and Cabinet Member for Growth Cllr Indy Wijenayaka joined centre manager Elaine Simmons representatives from the college and education group including Laraine Moody as well as some adult learners for a look around the building. We monitor nitrogen dioxide levels – the main pollutant from vehicles which is linked to respiratory diseases. Air pollution costs taxpayers millions in health and social care costs. West Suffolk Council is committed to monitoring and reducing pollution throughout the district for the benefit of residents and their health. The good news is that nitrogen dioxide levels have been dropping – they are not only below the national threshold but have fallen on last year and are below pre-pandemic levels. And its thanks to each and every one of you who has made a small step to change. Whether its walking, cycling, car sharing, using your car less, switching to electric vehicles which don’t produce any exhaust emissions, or simply switching off your engine while parked for any length of time, it’s all helping make for a better environment and helping our health. You can read more on how West Suffolk works to support these actions at https://lnkd.in/eE-RAMSx You can also read our Air Quality Annual Status Report at https://lnkd.in/ec8CB4gt #airpollution #airpollutionmonitoring #nitrogendioxide #nitrogendioxidelevels #airquality #airqualitymonitoring #pollution #electricvehicles #carexhaust #exhaustfumes #vehicleexhaust #antiidling #carfree #carfreeday #carshare #carsharing #walkmoredriveless #cycling #westsuffolk #environment #environmentalresilience #healthandwellbeing #asthma
