Our partners YoungMinds, in collaboration with creative agency Livity and over 1000 young people, have unveiled a new sculpture at Kings Cross. This sculpture is constructed from thousands of objects, each representing a driver of the youth mental health crisis, and responds to mental health referrals surpassing 1 million for the third consecutive year. Yesterday we held roundtables in #Chester and #Westminster, to explore the themes #Aspirations and #SocialMobility, which are central to empowering young people to reach their potential. 🚀 Throughout 2024, we’re hosting roundtables on our funding areas as part of our strategy refresh. Key themes from our discussions included: 🌟External events such as Covid-19 and the cost-of-living crisis have limited young people’s aspirations and social mobility opportunities. 🌟Embedding career guidance and work experience opportunities into the curriculum is crucial. We need to prioritise and create space for these interventions in schools. 🌟Social mobility charities with aligned objectives are delivering separately, there is an opportunity to increase impact through more collaboration, shared learning and joint funding applications. Thank you to our facilitators Charly Young MBE and Christen Brandt, and to all the charity representatives for their valuable insights and for supporting marginalised young people into good work. Fascinating conversation today with Westminster Foundation and a range of great #SocialMobility charities One idea stuck with me … 💷 How important it is that we don’t limit social mobility just to discussions of career and income Ofcourse, the circumstances of your birth shouldn’t dictate your career goals and achievements. 🎯Helping young people raise their aspirations and then meet them is at the core of what I have spent the last 20 years doing. I loved hearing of the work of the Foundation and the charities in supporting this vision. But equally 🏘️ The circumstances of your birth should also not dictate your aspirations and achievements for the impact you can have on your community and the world around you. That means … As well as focusing on economic power, we should be thinking of civic and political power. 🤏 A tiny proportion of young people think they can change the world … At Speakers Trust believe ALL young people can and should be empowered to do so. 🎤 Finding your voice is step 1 …. Thanks for the invite Kate Brown and team & to Charly Young MBE for facilitating the day.

Marking one year of supporting social impact organisations, we're flying the flag at Fivefields, our flexible workspace and co-working community. Developed in collaboration with the Westminster Foundation and operated and managed by x+why, the space is specifically designed to support charities and social impact organisations. As with all design elements of the building, the flag has carefully considered credentials: produced using 100% recycled materials, including two plastic bottles per square metre, the flag also features EnhanceAir technology to help absorb excess NOx and VOC levels from the air. We are pleased to have sponsored The Childhood Trust's 6th Annual London Child Poverty Summit that brought together a variety of people, and importantly young voices, who are all passionate about improving the lives of children living in poverty and offering the chance to learn from each other. With 700,000 children living in poverty, this topic is more crucial than ever. Recently, we conducted a Q&A with Posy Barker from The Childhood Trust. Read here: https://lnkd.in/eBKW9w2J Learn more about the Summit and the key takeaways below 👇 #Grantees #LDNChallengePoverty #Povertyfreelondon
Yesterday, we hosted our 6th Annual London Child Poverty Summit, focused on the themes of Places, Spaces, and Wellbeing. The event brought together inspirational voices like Kenny Imafidon, our dedicated charity partners, and, most importantly, young people from across London. It served as a vital platform for those working to tackle child poverty, fostering meaningful dialogue and long-lasting learning as we work together to improve the lives of children. Before the summit, 57% of attendees felt that London was a city for children and young people, yet many were disheartened by the reality that 700,000 children live in poverty and were uncertain about how to address the barriers they face. However, after listening to our expert panels, 73% of attendees believed that London has the potential to truly become a child-friendly city. So, what do we need to achieve this? Here’s what our attendees highlighted: 1) Safety – Creating safe spaces where children can grow and play 2) Opportunities – Ensuring every child has the chance to learn and thrive 3) Collaboration – Encouraging stronger partnerships between charities, schools, and communities At The Childhood Trust, we’re addressing these priorities through our Transforming Spaces programme and the impactful work of our London Charity Partner Network. Later this week, we’ll be sharing key findings and reflections from the summit, but for now, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who attended and contributed to our powerful discussions. This London Challenge Poverty Week, we are breaking the stigma around the challenges young people in poverty face, working together to ensure that every child in London has the opportunity for a happy and healthy childhood. 🌟 #PovertyInEveryPostcode #LDNChallengePoverty #povertyfreelondon

A huge thanks to The Childhood Trust for delivering The 2024 Childhood Poverty Summit. It was great to meet colleagues in the sector to discuss some of the important issues facing young people in the capital, with a focus on topics of space and place. Critically, we heard from young people on the pros and cons of social media, how physical spaces can alleviate vulnerability and how schools can foster safety by raising awareness of the mental health support on offer. I look forward to working closely with the wonderful Neha Mahendru and her team in the future. In the meantime, let's start by listening intently to the young voices that are often pushed to the fringes of society. #youthvoice #youngpeople #youth Westminster Foundation Young Westminster Foundation Westminster City Council Youth Futures Foundation
