Richard Henry Whitman Morecombe tragically passed away recently. Richard was a serial entrepreneur, investor and a driving force behind our firm's formative years. He had an infectious personality, boundless energy for business, the racecourse and life. Whitman Asset Management would not exist without him.
One of the original founders of Numis, Richard spent ten years there from 1998 to 2008, during which period the market cap grew from £10m to £400m. He co-founded in 2011 and was CEO of Whitman Howard, a boutique UK broker, until it was acquired and integrated with Panmure Gordon in 2020. Whitman Howard provided the seed capital to start Whitman Asset Management in 2018 and Richard remained one of our largest private shareholders.
Richard will be greatly missed by anyone who knew him. He was a master of human chess, rarely seen without the racing post and champion backer of young people in the square mile.
RIP Morky
