📖Teacher Handbook: SEND... Have you downloaded the second edition yet? This free* reference book is designed to improve the educational experience of children and young people by helping education practitioners put inclusion at the heart of their practice. With contributions from specialists across the sector, the handbook is a comprehensive resource for teachers to use over time, with each of the nine sections intended to be used as required rather than being read in sequence. It brings together practical examples of high-quality teaching - placing focus on removing barriers to learning, getting to know and understand individual learners, and bringing to life the graduated approach. With three new subject-specific chapters for History, Geography and Religious Education, it offers a wealth of ideas and information about the following key areas: • Planning inclusive lessons • Creating including environments • Curriculum considerations for KS3 and 4 • Strategies to scaffold learning • Vocabulary retentions • Supporting learners who need additional conceptual understanding Read more and download your copy today: https://ow.ly/EErr50Q04zp *Funded by the Department for Education as part of the Universal SEND Services programme, which is delivered by nasen through Whole School SEND with the Education and Training Foundation and the Autism Education Trust (AET).

A recent report from the School of Education at Durham University confirms that Y6 children with specific learning difficulties, like dyslexia, and those with speech, language, and communication needs are falling behind their peers by one-and-a-half to two years. For the same pupils, the gap in maths is getting wider, and a significant number of learners are starting secondary school with gaps in the skills they need to fully engage with more complex topics. Join us for our FREE webinar next Wednesday (2 October, 3.30pm) to explore How Teaching for Mastery in Maths Supports all Pupils. We'll consider the key potential barriers to learning, and explore how this translates into practice using Teaching for Mastery in the Primary and Secondary phases. 💡SEND Support for Mainstream Practitioners: New resources available! The increased focus on how mainstream settings should support learners with special educational needs and disability (SEND) is one of education's hot topics right now, yet we know that confidence in practitioners is low. So where do you turn for advice? Who is a safe pair of hands? And how do you know what CPD will have the best results? Universal SEND Services is an ambitious programme funded by the Department for Education. It offers the education workforce free-to-access CPD so that more children and young people benefit from having their needs identified and met effectively. To help you get the best from our programme, we've developed four new Toolkits, which bring together our most essential practical resources, educational articles and training in one place. While all of the toolkits support the development of an inclusive culture, each one is relevant to one of four different roles or aspects of working within a school or FE setting: - Teachers - Teaching assistants and learning support staff - Leadership roles and SENCOs - Coproduction and Partnership – for anyone working with parents / careers and outside agencies. On Tuesday, Ofsted published its response to its Big Listen consultation, setting out how the inspectorate will reset relationships with the sectors it inspects and regulates, while continuing to raise standards for children and learners. Among the key areas that Ofsted hopes will lead to real change is the commitment to putting vulnerable children - such as those with special educational needs and disability (SEND) - at the heart of its reforms. To do this, their new inspection framework will include a specific focus on inclusion. Brilliant teachers are especially important for learners with SEND. For some time, we've known that confidence in identifying and supporting learners with SEND has been low across the sector. We also know that your time is precious. To help you save time, we've read through Ofsted's response and linked the key points to our most relevant CPD - available FREE through the Universal SEND Services Programme. Take a look today and see how we can help you build confidence and develop skills in inclusive practice:https://ow.ly/q8ZI50TgGUW
