In partnership with the Cricketers Inn, Curdridge we are proud to announce that the Winchester Rugby Club volunteer of the month for October is Jon Gapper. Congratulations Jon and thank you for all that you do. We trust you enjoy a fabulous meal at Stuart and Sally’s wonderful pub. It is no easy task selecting our monthly winner and other deserving nominations for October were Dom Hardy and Helen Gummerson from our U18 girls, Pete Wallis who does fabulous work as part of our grounds team and Mark Hunter who coaches our Under 8’s.

Winchester Rugby Club President Rob Sanderson was delighted to be joined by Mark Mills-Goodlet this afternoon to present the clubs donation to the The Rosemary Foundation Hospice at Home as their share of the funds raised from the recent 300 mile cycling challenge around all of the other 11 clubs in the league. The beneficiaries have been chosen by some of the sponsors at Winchester RFC with this one being particularly special for Mark as the Rosemary Foundation looked after his sister Lynn. £8k has been raised allowing the club to support eight different charities. A huge thank you to the cycle team of Susan Dorrington James Simpson Rolf Stratford David Hill David Lewis and Tim Pike who endured dreadful weather for 2 of the 3 days so we are able to support charities in our community.

Another busy morning for Winchester Rugby Club President Rob Sanderson distributing funds raised from the 300 mile charity cycle around the other clubs in the Central South region. The second beneficiary was the Southampton and Winchester support group of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association This was all the more poignant as Rob’s good friend Graeme who was diagnosed with the condition two years ago received the cheque on their behalf. Very proud of the rugby community and all they do up and down the country for good causes.

Fabulous day at Winchester Rugby Club yesterday. Great crowd, wonderful lunch and a resounding 57:12 win against a very good Guildford Rugby Club side. Importantly though we were able to present the first of the funds raised from our President Rob Sanderson recent 300 miles cycle around the other clubs in our league. First up was Young Lives vs Cancer and a real pleasure that their committee member and also WRFC member Lois Dando could accept this on behalf of the charity. 7 more cheques like this to follow for other charities in the near future as the efforts of the cycling team reached the £8k target.

We are acutely conscious that our wonderful club is only what it is thanks to the efforts of some 150 volunteers. Without this help Winchester Rugby Club simply doesn’t exist. We are therefore delighted to announce that in partnership with The Cricketers Inn at Curdridge near Bishops Waltham we have introduced our Volunteer of the Month award. Stuart and Sally Downie who own the Cricketers have generously become a club sponsor and in addition have donated a voucher for each monthly recipient to enjoy a fabulous meal at their pub. Our first winner for the month of September is Martin Ratcliffe, Team Manager of our Under 13’s, a position he only took up this season. Congratulations Martin and thank you.

A fabulous weekend for Winchester Rugby Club.Our President Rob Sanderson together with his 7 team mates successfully completed the 300 mile cycle around all the 11 other clubs in our Regional league returning to the clubhouse late morning in readiness for the pre match lunch. A sell out gathering were entertained by a few words from Wayne Barnes before watching Winchester turn on the style in a 50:0 victory over Chobham Rugby Charity’s supported this year were selected by the clubs key sponsors and were Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Trinity Winchester Young Lives vs Cancer The Winchester Beacon Winchester Go LD and The Rosemary Foundation Hospice at Home The clubs target is to raise £1k for each charity from this event and will hopefully reach this milestone this week.

Once a season Winchester Rugby Club grant the President Rob Sanderson the honour of hosting a Presidents charity lunch. This year rather than just the lunch he thought it would be a good idea to form a new team to cycle the 300 miles around the clubs in our league over the previous 3days. So that’s what we’re doing and in addition to my ongoing support of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association each of our major club sponsors have also chosen a charity of their choice. We hope to increase the awareness and also raise £1k for each charity. To ensure a sell out lunch and big touchline support the club are delighted that Wayne Barnes will be the guest at the lunch and to help boost the charities coffers. It should be a great day and allow us once again to showcase community rugby at its best.
