Wintercomfort for the Homeless - bringing lasting, positive change to the lives of homeless people in Cambridge.
About us
Wintercomfort for the Homeless is Cambridge’s only day centre for homeless and vulnerably housed people. Open seven days a week, we provide vital welfare services such as hot meals, showers, laundry and fresh clothing alongside counselling, support with addiction, education and development, housing and employment advice. We run a dedicated support service for Homeless Women - Winter Women which is the only service of its kind in the city. Many of these women have lived experience of domestic and sexual violence which has contributed to their homeless status. Wintercomfort’s award-winning social enterprise Overstream Clean and Garden provides training and paid employment opportunities for people affected by homelessness. The business undertakes commercial cleaning contracts and both private and commercial gardening work. Our work supports people to move out of homelessness and empowers long lasting, positive change. We are keen to connect with local businesses and individuals for awareness raising, volunteering, support with training and employment and for fundraising.

It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with the public and fellow organisations about the vital work we do to support the homeless community in our city. Thank you to everyone who stopped by to chat. Cambridge City Council #CambridgeStreetAid #CambridgeStreetAidWeek

On Monday, our Fundraising Manager, James, was invited to lead an assembly at Cambridge International School, where he spoke to the children about homelessness in Cambridge and answered their questions. He also collected a harvest donation from the pupils full of essential items to take back to be used at Wintercomfort. Each year Cambridge Internation School support us with harvest donations, and we are thankful for their support and our continued partnership with the school. If you would like Wintercomfort to visit and speak at your school, club or business, we would be very happy to talk about the work that we do and our impact in the community. Please email fundraising@wintercomfort.org.uk for more information. #harvest #CambridgeInternationalSchool

Earlier this month, along with Jimmy's Cambridge, It Takes a City (Cambridge), Cambridge Cyrenians and the support of Rotary Cambridge South, the annual Tommy McLafferty Cup, a Cambridge football tournament for homeless people, took place. A great, competitive, but fun, competition, and a wonderful day. Congratulations to all that took part, and a huge thank you to Blunham FC for supplying the kit for the Wintercomfort team! #rotarycambridgesouth

We want to send a huge thank you to James, one of our youngest supporters, for his amazing fundraising challenge in support of Wintercomfort for the Homeless. Inspired by his Dad, Michael Short (CTPM®) from Sitec Infrastructure Services Ltd. one of our fabulous #CharityoftheYear partners, James has been sleeping in a tent in his garden during the school summer holidays to raise funds for Wintercomfort for the Homeless. He has shown such wonderful determination, and we are all very impressed with his ongoing commitment to his #challenge. If you would like to support James in reaching his fundraising target, please visit his page here - https://bit.ly/4cFwI26

A huge thank you from all of us at Wintercomfort for the Homeless. Such an incredible event to be involved in, sleeping bags ready for next year, we're looking forward to it!
🎉 Celebrating Community Spirit and Support! 🎉 We are thrilled to celebrate the success of the annual Sleepout event, where Wintercomfort for the Homeless and Cambridge United Foundation join forces to raise money for both causes. This February, over 100 amazing participants from local businesses, partners, and supporters gathered at the Cledara Abbey Stadium and spent a night "sleeping rough" in the terraces. Together, we raised an incredible £28,500 for both charities! 🙌 Your generosity and commitment make a real difference in our community. We're excited to announce that this iconic event will be back in March 2025! If you want to be part of this impactful experience, please get in touch. Let's keep the momentum going and make a difference together! 💛🏟️ #CommunitySupport #Wintercomfort #CambridgeUnitedFoundation #Sleepout2025
