About us

Wirral Mencap is a small, local charity, based in the heart of Birkenhead. We support people with a learning disability and their families by providing information, support and opportunities. To find out more about the work of the organisation please see our website. We are an independent charity that works with local families to establish our priorities. We are affiliated to National Mencap by way of our mission to advance equality for people with a learning disability and their families, but we are governed by local people and raise our own funds to deliver projects in Wirral. We could not be more pleased to be able to announce our nominated Charity of the Year for 2025! We will be supporting Wirral Mencap! Yay! Wirral Mencap supports adults with learning disabilities in their community through an endless list of both social and skills workshops and awards. They are entirely independently funded, making the support of businesses like mmunicMail invaluable for their continued operation. We’ve started by sponsoring a race in their upcoming Race Night next Thursday. Our very own Teresa Carnall has also already bravely signed up to their comedy night - we can't wait! Although we are a Chester based outfit, the impact of Mencap goes far beyond the immediate area and into the wider community in the North West. We recently met with passionate employees DANIELLE JACKSON and Rebecca Chapman, and hardworking volunteers of Mencap at their headquarters. One of those volunteers, Liam, documented Mencap's tea party event for Learning Disability Week which he's kindly allowed us to share below. Take a look to find out a bit more about what Wirral Mencap offer. We ask that you join us in our continued efforts to support Wirral Mencap and their invaluable work this year 🩷 ⭐ You can donate here today and help this incredible charity continue to support people: https://lnkd.in/eQ9MfAts ⭐ Head to their website to find out more about the wide array of services - and events - that they offer: https://lnkd.in/eC8DdHAd

Bryony from the Voices Council shares why PIP is important 📣   The UK Government wants to make changes to the benefit system, but those changes haven't happened yet. We’re speaking to them to make sure that people with a learning disability are listened to.   We know people are worried about what the changes might mean for them. If you need more info or support, https://lnkd.in/eVVaDRG5   Share your story in the comments below 👇 Video description: Bryony stands outside wearing a fluffy cardigan, she looks towards the camera as she speaks about why PIP is important for people with a learning disability and what changes the government might make to benefits.
