National charity working to build a world where domestic abuse is no longer tolerated.
About us
Women’s Aid is the national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We are a federation of over 170 organisations that provide just under 300 local lifesaving services to women and children across England. For 47 years we have campaigned on behalf of our members and survivors to shape policy and practice, and to raise awareness of domestic abuse. Our support services, which include our Live Chat Helpline, the Survivors’ Forum, the No Woman Turned Away Project, the Survivor’s Handbook, Love Respect (our dedicated website for young people in their first relationships), the national Domestic Abuse Directory and our advocacy projects, help thousands of women and children every year.

“In the past, Women’s Aid have shown my family and I kindness and hope when we needed it the most. I now live a life where I thrive, not just survive; for this reason, I jumped at the opportunity to give back. I am overwhelmed by all of the love and support from friends, family and strangers who donate to the cause. Fundraising for the charity has been an incredible journey which I would recommend to anyone.” This is why Sarah is taking on the Step Forward challenge, how about you? Will you join her and walk or run 60 miles in September? Sign up your workplace as a team and share the miles between you. Every penny you raise will help us end domestic abuse: https://ow.ly/JBvq50SI0gb.

A National Police Chiefs' Council report released today shows that 3,000 violence against women and girls (VAWG) offences are recorded every day in England and Wales. The scale of the #VAWG national emergency is even more alarming when you consider that so many survivors will not report their experiences to the police. The issue will, therefore, be much larger than this data shows. Without meaningful collaboration and action, women and children will continue to be failed when it comes to being protected and when seeking justice for the abuse they have endured. While waiting to access safe accommodation, many survivors supported by Women’s Aid’s No Woman Turned Away Project (NWTA) in 2023 experienced further abuse and faced financial hardship. Our Nowhere to Turn 2024 report details the findings from the eighth year of the NWTA project, which provides support and advocacy to women facing additional barriers to accessing refuge or other safe accommodation. The report builds on our evidence base on the structural inequalities that many survivors face and makes evidence-based recommendations for key stakeholders. Women like Imani give an insight into the heart-breaking stories women face in their journey to escape abuse. Please access the full report here: https://tr.ee/-6HhAdjA3Z

It was an absolute honour to have Jess Phillips MP attend our National Conference 2024 – and to have her be a part of Women’s Aids 50th birthday celebrations. Her passionate speech about the urgent need for change to protect women and girls was truly inspiring. It was a pleasure to have Jess and truly insightful to hear her insights into Labour’s commitment to halve VAWG in a decade – together we can #EndAbuseTogether
“I believe passionately that change is needed and that until it is achieved, we cannot rest. Not while so many people – and especially women and girls – are frightened for their safety. Not while victims are being subjected to the most appalling abuse." Yesterday, Minister Jess Phillips attended the Women's Aid Federation of England conference in Birmingham, setting out the government's mission to halve violence against women and girls in a decade.

We’re thrilled Keir Starmer recognised the incredible work of our Patron Mel B in yesterday’s parliamentary speech. Whilst we welcome plans to halve #VAWG in the next decade, our new government must demonstrate urgent action to support specialist services and #endabusetogether.
