With the cost of living crisis and cuts to legal aid, access to legal representation is becoming incredibly harder. Did you know Monday was International #EWasteDay! #ElectronicWaste (aka e-waste) is the fastest growing type of waste in the world. Electronics can contain valuable, increasingly rare or sometimes harmful materials that often get binned. What’s even more urgent, elements hidden in electronics, like copper, lithium and nickel, are resources needed to shift the UK energy grid away from #fossilfuels! We need some (student powered) solutions!! Climate Jams have been working hard behind the scenes with Hubbub and King's Climate & Sustainability to organise an e-waste #Hackathon for students at London based Universities (see below for which ones). The Hackathon will be sponsored by Virgin Media O2 and will be judged by representatives from Mer-It, Fixing Factory, Hivefolio and King's College London. This will be a collaborative, innovative and fun day where inter-disciplinary student teams will work together to generate creative solutions to specific e-waste challenges. We want to give students a chance to shape their own ideas, develop their skills and work with other students from across disciplines to develop their skills and knowledge in a challenge-based setting. These kinds of events are a core part of what Climate Jams wants to achieve – equipping students with the tools to tackle an increasingly uncertain future! Our teams have excelled in Rounds 1 and 2 for the Criminal Cup, Civil Cup, and Specialty Cup. Congratulations to our outstanding BVS and GDL students for their exceptional performance!
