🎙️Today, we held one of our insightful expert sessions for our WORKTECH Academy members, this time led by industry experts Aki Stamatis, Guenaelle Watson and Duncan Morris of Area, and hosted by Jeremy Myerson, Kasia Maynard and Matthew Myerson, drawing closer focus on what it means to be B Corp certified and outlining their firm commitments to ESG practices. Aki Stamatis has identified that B Corp allowed his business to say it does good things. An effective way of measuring this is by the impact report they must produce as part of B Corp, which looks at the goals they have achieved throughout the year and the future goals they want to set themselves as a company. Throughout the webinar, the experts pinpointed the pros and cons of becoming a B Corp, recognising that this certification is an investment to achieve and maintain it. B Corp doesn’t allow greenwashing to happen by enabling the company to stay transparent with its clients. 💡It’s time for organisations to understand how to unlock the full potential of workplace data to enhance experience. The new collaborative article from WORKTECH Academy x Accessia, explores how companies can enhance experience by unlocking the full potential of workplace data. Companies have noticeably been increasing their focus on collecting workplace utilisation data to improve real estate and the workplace experience. However, there have been a noticeable number of initiatives that have failed to achieve their full potential. This is most commonly due to the data collection methods and the quality of the data itself. The growing relevance of workplace data in today’s hybrid work environments signals a shift towards informed and data-led decision making, but studies have shown that digital agility is not reaching its full potential. How important is it to have your own allocated space in the office? A new study supports the already established idea that individuals and teams benefit significantly from a 'home base' at work. The new article by Sally Augustin examines the latest research by Colenberg and Mathilda du Preez, which studied work areas developed to build community among academics. This report portrays that individuals require a more private and quieter workspace to concentrate and socialise without disturbing others. Research constantly shows that having a dedicated ‘home base’ benefits the individuals and teams within the workspace. When some offices struggle to assign seats to individuals, space ‘owned’ by teams becomes even more critical. 🎭An award-winning drama set entirely in the break room of a Detroit car factory reminds us what is lost when private recovery spaces are stripped out of the modern workplace. ‘Skeleton Crew’ is a 2016 Tony award-winning play written by Dominique Morisseau. Set in Detroit's car factory, it was revived at the Donmar Warehouse in London this summer. Even though the play is set in 2008 during the global financial meltdown, there are certainly many parallels to the world today: workers seeking purpose in work, hostile managers, racial and social injustice, and constant communication failures. Breakrooms are being stripped from offices to offer a more open environment and replaced with ‘breakout zones’, which offer little privacy. New research shows that scrapping the enclosed breakrooms may not be a good idea after all.
