🪴A recent WORKTECH Academy article discusses new neuroscience research showing that biophilic design is an essential factor in creating a welcoming workplace. The researchers Nanu and Rahman (2023) discovered that hotel lobbies with plants had greater success; this conclusion is likely relevant to office lobbies. The researchers found that ‘having nature in the lobby will not only make the customers spend more time there, but by doing so, they will also spend on food and beverages.’ Evidently, the research concluded that biophilic design elements evoke positive emotions, superior perceived quality, favourable attitudes, and positive behaviours. 💡Yesterday, WORKTECH Academy, in collaboration with The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design, held its annual innovation day at the Royal College of Art. This year's Innovation Day was centred around New Forms of Leadership for the New World of Work. Our members participated in creative workshops, completing tasks that helped spark thought-provoking discussions and ideas anchored around creative leadership. During this workshop, we identified the three pillars of creative leadership: empathy, clarity, and creativity. Creative leadership is open-source leadership that should be a transformational exercise that is both personal and organisational. We also learned that creativity is the universal ability to develop solutions that positively impact ourselves and others, and new workplaces call for new types of leadership. After the workshop, we had the chance to tour the new Royal College of Arts campus and the Innovation Tower, where we got an opportunity to get inspired. The day ended on the 7th floor of the new campus overlooking London and some closing remarks from WORKTECH Academy co-founder and Royal College of Art Professor Emeritus Jeremy Myerson and WORKTECH Academy's head of editorial, Kasia Maynard, who gave us their main takeaway points of the day. We thank the Royal College of Art, Rama Gheerawo, Adam Kingl and Chris McGinley of The Helen Hamlyn Centre for Design for leading an excellent and insightful workshop and all who attended the Innovation Day. We look forward to seeing you all at our other WORKETCH Academy gatherings! #worldofwork #innovation #insight

Thank you to Dr. Agustin Chevez for being a guest speaker at Zoom x HP roadshow in collaboration with WORKTECH Academy. Dr. Agustin Chevez shared his thoughts on what the future of work will look like while drawing attention to the advantages of AI in the workplace and how it is shaping the evolving workplace. WORKTECH Academy recently published the Q3 Trend Report 'Breaking Conventions: Eigt Key Ideas Redirecting the Future of Work', in which Dr. Agustin Chevez Cheves discusses the idea of escaping from the pull of the office. If we want to build the workplace of the future, we need to transcend the machinery of office development. #worldofwork #innovation #AI
Thank you James Ware (HP) and Nelson Padilla (Zoom), for the opportunity to share some ideas on work and the workplace alongside your ongoing efforts and the upcoming report outlining the AI advantage in the workplace in collaboration with WORKTECH Academy. It’s exciting to see the AI technologies shaping the future of work! Also encouraging to see that a model developed during my PhD, 14 years ago (pictured), is still relevant and resonates with others, even amidst the significantly different context of work and advancements in AI. 💡Last week, WORKTECH Academy collaborated on an expert session with adrianse*, a global interior design company. The session discussed how to create a healthy work environment and what strategies to consider when designing health-inclusive workplaces. This session's panel featured chinmayee ananth, director at adrianse*, and Stefano Caglioni, design lead at adrianse*. The session was chaired by Kasia Maynard, head of editorial at WORKTECH Academy. For organisations to be able to seek and retain best-of-class talent, prioritising health and wellbeing in today’s evolving work landscape must be a priority. This expert session explored how can organisations use holistic integration of health and wellbeing in workplace design, as traditional and transactional approaches to workplace wellness seem to fall short, based on an Indian model. Understanding the various needs of different generations is essential, as they bring distinct priorities and perspectives on what makes a healthy workplace and have different requirements for their well-being. We took a closer look at the nuanced requirements of the different demographics and considered a blend of traditional and contemporary approaches to cater to all generations. 🏢Lendlease and WORKTECH Academy have collaborated on a new report, ‘From Desk to District: The Changing of Real Estate for Collaborative Innovation.’ The report explores the three key models for innovation space at different scales and considers how they have evolved over the past five years. After being curbed by the global pandemic, collaborative and open innovation has returned to the world of work. The question remains: what real-estate models will allow companies to accelerate new ideas through the strategic use of space? This Lendlease report allows organisations to develop an innovation strategy that fits their needs using these three models. · The Innovation Lab is a dedicated internal facility for employees that operates on an organisational scale. · The Shared Hub is an invitation-only external innovation space for key players from within and outside the organisation. · The Innovation District is a platform for accelerated collaborative innovation that more sustainably and equitably addresses long-term challenges. After the pandemic, many organisations have been rethinking real estate usage, often repurposing or relocating to get people back into the office to encourage collaborations, innovation, and new ideas. This report explores how workspaces can operate within an innovation ecosystem by showcasing the real estate models in action in two of Lendlease's flagship projects: Stratford Cross, London, and MIND, Milan. 🎙️The new episode of the Unworking podcast explores how Booking.com’s innovative office design helps foster community and collaboration. In the latest episode, UnWork's head of business innovation, Nicole Barretto, sits down with Marnix Mali, Booking.com's director of global real estate and workspace services, to discuss the new central Amsterdam campus and how continuous data and feedback contribute to the workplace experience. The new Booking.com office has been described as a community designed to reflect a small town that fosters connection and sustainability. As Booking.com experienced rapid growth in Amsterdam, with 12 offices scattered throughout the city, the spread-out set-up noticeably hindered communication and collaboration. The new Booking.com office was designed to eliminate these obstacles using a data-driven approach. WORKTECH Academy takes Toronto!🍁 This week, we were lucky enough to join the WORKTECH team in Toronto for a fantastic conference and a series of exciting workplace tours. We started the week off at Scotiabank, where we met at the life size replica painting of a waterfall in Alberta before heading off on a tour of the incredible space. We were particularly impressed by their ‘Loft’, a welcoming and open environment where Scotiabank visitors who don’t have a touchdown space can work. Next we headed to the BMO office space, a reimagined old Sears space. Spanning four floors of the Eaton centre, we really enjoyed seeing old features of the space incorporated into the design, including internal escalators. We finished the day with a tour of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, where we were struck by the thoughtfully considered floorplate design, so that moving from west to east was a transition from more focused spaces to louder, more collaborative zones. The design reflected a strong emphasis on employee flexibility and choice in work styles. On Thursday, we joined the WORKTECH Toronto conference, hosted at the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan offices. The opening message was that ‘the new world of work is all about empowerment’, according to Professor John Trougakos from University of Toronto. Afterwards, Kristopher Banner highlighted that ‘space exists for people first’, sharing a case study of how ATB Financial has taken a flexible approach to hybrid working. In the afternoon, the conference introduced Think Tank sessions, where open discussion was encouraged. Our team had the chance to talk to a group about the value of the new employee value proposition, looking at how to rebuild a cohesive culture in a hybrid work model. We finished the day with drinks at The Canopy sponsored by Envoy – a lovely end to a lovely day! Thanks to the WORKTECH team for organising such a great event!
