This year we’ve been fortunate to have once again been supported by LeMieux and we wanted to say a big THANK YOU! 💙 Not only have they contributed by making a corporate donation and adding a customer donation option to their checkout, they have provided huge support with in-kind donations and the launch of the Stable Squad, a club that young horse enthusiasts can join to help horses in need. 🐴 Now, their most recent fundraising initiative is providing a donation for every Lemon or Daphne toy pony sold! Helping raise over £100,000, we are so incredibly appreciative for all that LeMieux has done for us so far 👏 📸: The LeMieux team at their volunteer day at our Glenda Spooner Farm. We are an international horse charity that improves the lives of horses in the UK and around the world.
About us
World Horse Welfare, the leading international horse charity, is dedicated to promoting horse welfare worldwide. Founded in 1927, and formerly called The International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH), the charity is committed to stamping out suffering and improving the life of horses in the UK and overseas through education, campaigns and hands-on work with horses. Unique among horse charities, World Horse Welfare actively supports the use of horses in sport and is the welfare arm of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) and advisor to the British Horseracing Authority. In the United Kingdom, it has four Rescue and Rehoming centres and a network of full-time welfare field staff. Overseas, it provides communities with the skills and training to care for their working horses and enhance horse owners’ prospects. The charity also delivers high profile and effective international campaigns to promote the welfare of horses at home and abroad. Please visit www.worldhorsewelfare.org.

We are pleased to share that our Chief Executive, Roly Owers, features in a new documentary "Horses and the Science of Harmony" 🐴 The film sets out to tell the emotional story of Bubby Upton, a rising star in British 3-day eventing, who suffered a catastrophic spinal injury but courageously fought to get back in the saddle. Featuring experts in the field of equine neuroscience, equine veterinarians, and Olympic riders, Bubby's story is woven alongside the latest science to foster a greater understanding of how we can improve equine welfare. You can find "Horses and The Science of Harmony" on YouTube, most Smart TV platforms, and through the Equus Television Network. Watch the trailer here: https://lnkd.in/e6Bes7Jy

Last week, we welcomed the news that the African Union has called for action to prioritise the ban on slaughtering donkeys for their skins in a letter to Member States. This is a big step forward to protect donkeys from theft and trafficking, and their owners who depend on them for their livelihoods. As members of the International Coalition for Working Equids (ICWE), alongside Brooke, Action For Working Horses and Donkeys, SPANA, and The Donkey Sanctuary, we fully support the development of a strategy outlining the management donkeys and other working equids currently being produced by the African Union’s Inter-African Bureau for Animal Resources. 🐴💡It's Myth Busting Monday! The horse world is full of ‘myths’ about some of the things that horses do – without recognising that many of these behaviours are due to pain. Here is just one of 33 behaviours that may be caused by pain in a horse that doesn’t show obvious lameness. For more information, you can read our full ‘myth busting’ guide here 👉 https://bit.ly/3YnSm72 #WorldHorseWelfare #MythBustingMonday

Major news for the equine industry 🐴 Earlier this month, the new CANTER Guidelines for sustainable use of anthelmintics in horses were introduced at the International Equine Infectious Disease Conference. Research has shown that worming advice for equines must change to help tackle wormer resistance, one of the most urgent threats to equine health today. The old advice of blanket worming equines is no longer effective, and prescribers should use the new guidelines to help make informed decisions and provide correct advice tailored to individual horses. There's still lots of work to be done surrounding the resistance issue, but this is a great step forward 👏 Read the new guidelines here: https://lnkd.in/eaGdd6Bk

🐴✨ It’s time to register for our internationally renowned annual conference! This year, an outstanding line-up of speakers and panellists will be considering the question: What is a good life for a horse? We all aspire to give our horses a ‘good’ life – but what does this really mean? 🤔 Our idea of a ‘good life’ may not be the same as someone else’s – while the horse’s experience could be something else entirely 🐎💭. 📅 The Conference takes place on Thursday, 7th November 💻 Register to access this free online event throughout the day and take part in live Q&As! 🌍 Live French and Spanish interpretation available 🌐 🔗 Find out more and sign up here ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/eaytJfbf #GoodLife4Horses

This week our Public Affairs team were in Brussels for a meeting of Eurogroup for Animals Equine Working Group chaired by our Director of Communications and Public Affairs Jessica Stark. Discussions were held around the recently produced White Paper ‘Good Welfare for Equids’ which includes indicators for positive and negative welfare and lays out why improving welfare for all horses is essential in Europe. This was followed by a visit to the European Commission as part of Eurogroup for Animals to ask the new Commission to deliver on their proposals to improve animal welfare. #animalwelfare #animalrights
