I had the opportunity to attend a conference organized by France 🇫🇷, to present the French nuclear fuel cycle. Part of the speakers who represented the French delegation, #orano (cécile evans , Christian Polak), #Framatome (Christophe JAROUSSE), #EDF (Frédéric Laugier) are also World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) members . The French nuclear industry presented the importance of maintaining and developing a sustainable, robust nuclear fuel cycle, as well as the benefits of spent fuel reprocessing and recycling to reduce the footprint of geological disposal and the need for natural resources: ➡️ Uranium mining and supply, with a focus on identifying new resources and leveraging emerging technologies ➡️ Uranium enrichment and spent fuel reprocessing capabilities, including plans to extend the lifetime of the recycling plant ➡️ Transport of radioactive materials to ensure logistics between the different sites ➡️ Fuel design and manufacturing, highlighting advanced fuel technologies ➡️ Recycling and waste management strategies, emphasizing the benefits of closing the fuel cycle ➡️ Advanced fuel technologies and R&D efforts, including support for innovative reactor designs ➡️ Strategic vision for the future, with plans to adapt the fuel cycle to support new reactor types and decarbonization goals ➡️ Public acceptance and the regulatory framework for radioactive waste management in France #nucleartransport #nucleartransportindustry #nuclearevents #transportevents #collaboration #nuclearcommunity #NuclearEnergy #NetZeroNuclear #CEA #ANDRA #IAEAGC

As the IAEA 68th General Conference draws to a close, it is good to reflect on some of key moments. At the opening of the conference, IAEA Director General Rafael Mariano Grossi spoke of the important work that the Agency has been occupied with these past 12 months. Protecting the non-proliferation regime remains a priority as do the many other initiatives such as Atoms for Food that is using nuclear applications to reduce global hunger, and Rays of Hope that is bringing nuclear science into health care and the fight against cancer. Many Member States hosted side events telling us how they, often in collaboration with other Member States, are working towards greater adoption of nuclear technologies. Throughout the week one thought kept coming back to me, and that is, none of this vital work would be possible without transportation. The transportation of radioactive materials has enjoyed several decades of safe and secure operations. With the growth and global adoption of nuclear technologies transport will play an increasingly important role. The World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI) remains at the forefront of these discussions. #WorldNuclearTransportInstitute #iaea #nucleartransport #iaea68 #NuclearEnergy

Wrapping up a week at the 68th IAEA General Conference! 🌍 The resolutions on Nuclear and Radiation Safety (GC(68)/11) and Nuclear Security (GC(68)/7) are still under review. Although they weren't adopted yet, Member States continue to deliberate on certain key aspects, with further discussions expected before a final vote. I had the opportunity to participate in some insightful side events: ➡️The Foro Iberoamericano de Organismos Reguladores Radiológicos y Nucleares of Radiological and Nuclear Regulatory Bodies, which highlighted recent achievements and future projects. ➡️The French New Nuclear Program: to present France's ambitious plans for six new EPR reactors and possibly eight more! 🇫🇷 The event covered progress, challenges, synergies, and lessons learned from past projects.#EDF And of course, I couldn’t leave without enjoying Belgian waffles at the #SCKCEN stand! 🧇 Made using iron plates from recycled parts of a nuclear power plant an example of Nuclear Waste Management. Heading back home after an enriching and productive week! #IAEAGC #nucleartransport #nucleartransportindustry #nuclearevents #transportevents #collaboration #nuclearcommunity #NuclearSafety #NuclearSecurity World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI)

Yesterday, I participated at #IAEAGC site event hosted by the United States of America 🇺🇸. The discussion focused on regulatory challenges, public perception, and the critical role of nuclear energy in achieving clean energy goals. Key takeaways included: ➡ The potential of Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and micro-reactors to drive energy innovation. ➡ The need for modernized regulations to support advanced nuclear technologies. ➡ Nuclear energy as a vital part of global decarbonization efforts. ➡ Importance of transparency and public awareness to dispel myths. ➡ A great example of public engagement: 🇬🇧 The UK’s "Grid Carbon" app, which offers real-time data on the carbon impact of electricity generation—an approach that could help increase understanding of nuclear’s clean energy role worldwide. ➡ Developing a skilled workforce to support nuclear's growth. The event also introduced the term “Nuclear Is Clean Energy” (NICE)**, underscoring the critical role of nuclear in building a clean, sustainable future. #CleanEnergy #NuclearEnergy #Innovation #SMRs #Decarbonization #Sustainability #Transparency #PublicEngagement #GridCarbon #NetZeroNuclear #ClimateWeekNYC #nucleartransport #nucleartransportindustry #nuclearevents #transportevents #collaboration #nuclearcommunity World Nuclear Transport Institute (WNTI)
