Tim will examine positive tipping points within our social systems which could help accelerate progress towards a more sustainable future.  Professor Tim Lenton, is the founding Director of the Global Systems Institute and Chair in Climate Change and Earth System Science at the University of Exeter. He has more than 25 years of research experience in studying the Earth as a system, and developing and using models to understand its behaviour. Tim's work brought him to the attention of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries. In collaboration with the IFoA, Tim has led ground breaking research to provide compelling logic for net zero becoming part of fiduciary duty, as if we do not mitigate climate change, it will be exceptionally challenging to provide financial returns. This important analysis could have far reaching effects in relation to climate-change scenario modelling in financial services which could have a profound impact on financial planning.
