Rt Hon Rachel Reeves in her Budget has maintained the current R&D tax reliefs and the Patent Box in its current format. HM Revenue & Customs will also consult in Spring 2025 on the use of advance clearances for R&D tax credits, which could give businesses certainty over the availability of this relief for projects where the relief is financially important to the business.   Alongside these announcements the Chancellor also announced that research and development expenditure will be protected, including for core research funding, innovation accelerators and Horizon Europe, with the Government spending £20.4b in 2025/26.   These developments along with Government investment in new technologies, will provide a boost for innovation in the UK.
