Dr Andy Harris, Head of Data Research and Analytics at Wrightbus and Centre Manager of the W-TECH Centre at Queen's University Belfast, (the only research centre in the world dedicated to the advancement of bus technologies), recently presented at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE)'s 5th Engineering a Hydrogen Economy Conference at the Millennium Point in Birmingham. Dr Andy shared a background of Wrightbus' innovative history, including how we developed the world's first hydrogen double-deck bus, to now being a world leader in H2 bus technologies, with an overview of the Advanced Propulsion Centre UK funded #NextGenFCEV project leading to the recent launch of our StreetDeck Hydroliner Gen 2.0. He spoke of his excitement about the continued innovation we are seeing across the industry: “Internationally, we've seen significant technological step changes in fuel-cell technologies for transport applications with efficiency, serviceability and weight reduction improvements, all leading to a lower total-cost-of-ownership. More locally, we are excited to see UK-based consortiums backed by government funding to introduce novel and innovative ways to produce, compress and store H2 fuel. If prototypes are successful, and with a clear route to market, it would make the UK a global leader in hydrogen-based technologies.” The conference welcomed industry and academic experts on hydrogen’s expanding role in aerospace, HGVs, marine, and internal combustion applications including Marcus Walls-Bruck, National Composites Centre, Barrie Goode, Swansea University, Dr Chloe Jo Palmer, Rolls-Royce, James Fidler, P.Eng Sturgeon County, Dr. Richard Osborne Ricardo Machado, Dr. Sivapriya (Priya) Mothilal Bhagavathy PNDC and Ingar Fossan Safetec We were incredibly proud to see the advances in fuel cell technology at Wrightbus taking centre stage, recognising the invaluable contribution we are making to the decarbonisation of public transport across the globe on our drive to a greener future. About us
For over 75 years, we’ve helped people reach their destinations all over the world. We’ve built iconic vehicles that have defined transport and added character to our cities and towns including the StreetCar in Las Vegas and the New Routemaster in London. And now, after the successful launch of our groundbreaking zero emission product line we are carrying passengers into a cleaner future. We remain the only British manufacture that manufacturers both single and double deck battery and fuel cell electric buses. Together with Queens University Belfast, we have an ability to carry out a range of academic-backed modelling analysis which is highly accurate, detailed and forms a key principle in the recommendation of the suggested battery capacity and vehicle performance. Under Jo Bamford’s leadership, Wrightbus is embarking on a new trajectory of innovation and environmental awareness. Just as with our Hydrogen bus, we’re applying new energy solutions to help our vehicles meet their zero-emission targets. We are also creating more green economy UK jobs across our UK centric supply chain for our zero-emission buses. For the world that has been waiting on greener buses, they have arrived.

If you are celebrating St Patrick’s Day in Dublin today, make your celebrations even greener by travelling on the National Transport Authority’s StreetDeck Electroliners for Dublin Bus (Bus Átha Cliath), designed and built by Wrightbus, bringing cleaner air to the city for commuters, residents and tourists! The stunning and iconic yellow Dublin buses have gone green, helping to decarbonise transport in the beautiful city of Dublin with Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority. The battery-electric double-deck Electroliners operate across the city and are supported by the newly electrified #Summerhill and #Phibsborough depots. These buses offer excellent accessibility features, including ramps at both doorways, separate wheelchair and buggy spaces, priority seating, hearing loops, USB charging, and a high level of comfort for both the passengers and the driver. As well as improving air quality by lowering emissions and cutting carbon, these buses cut down on noise pollution, helping to create a healthier environment and quieter commute around the city. We are delighted to partner with Dublin Bus and the National Transport Authority as we work together to help make public transport an accessible, comfortable and cleaner means of travel, lowering emissions and providing cleaner more breathable air in the city. #Wrightbus #TFI #NTA #DublinBus #DrivingAGreenerFuture #StPatricksDay

We were delighted to share a bittersweet moment with Peter Manning, First Bus Systems Engineer, as he visited Wrightbus for a final time to sign off the new First Bus Aberdeen StreetDeck Electroliner. Peter has been a great friend to Wrightbus throughout his career, and is now heading towards his well earned retirement after 40 years in the industry. Mick Campbell, Head of Sales and First Bus Account Manager at Wrightbus, reflected both personally and professionally on Peter’s retirement: “It has been an absolute pleasure working with Peter, both as a colleague during my own time at First Bus and more recently as a customer. His knowledge and friendship have played a pivotal role in my career in the bus industry. I know I speak on behalf of everyone at Wrightbus and across the industry by saying we wish him all the best in his retirement." The relationships we build with our customers at Wrightbus is hugely important, the teamwork, feedback, knowledge sharing and friendships that we pride ourselves upon remain at the core of what we do - putting the customer first and listening to and responding to what they have to say. Peter Manning has been not just a valued customer but in many ways one of the team, as we have worked together with First Bus to bring cleaner, greener buses to the roads across the UK. Look out for this latest addition to their fleets - the StreetDeck Electroliner for Aberdeen entering service. We wish Peter every success in his next chapter and a long and happy retirement! #Wrightbus #DrivingAGreenerFuture #FirstBus
