Meet the Jalapoeira Apurada collective – a group of Afro-Brazilian women who are preserving their ancient tradition. 🧡 In a skilled craft, these local artisans of the Quilombo settlements weave golden grasses - transforming plants into items as a source of income. First established by escaped enslaved people, the quilombo settlements have been crafting with grasses for decades. And by doing so, they also help protect the Cerrado, Brazil’s most threatened biome. With the support of WWF-Brasil in partnership with the Cerrado Central cooperative, the communities are receiving support to protect the grasses and its longevity, as well as the land in their community. "It has already been proven that traditional peoples and communities are the great protectors of the land." - Ana Carolina Bauer, conservation analyst and project leader at WWF-Brazil. #BlackHistoryMonth #IndigenousPeoples #Cerrado

Wild animals keep our planet – and us – healthy! 🐋 The #NaturesTechnicians report launches today, spotlighting how lesser-known species from the animal kingdom play an important role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. These often-overlooked species are vital in supporting life on Earth. 🌍 For instance, humpback whales provide a ‘conveyer belt’ for ocean nutrients, pulling them from the ocean depths to the surface, which helps fertilise the phytoplankton which produce 50% of the oxygen in our atmosphere. The future of life on our planet depends on safeguarding biodiversity: https://lnkd.in/ezTV8Tgq We hope to see world leaders take bold steps to #ActForOurPlanet at #COP16Colombia.

When we protect nature, it protects us. 💙 Bringing life back to our oceans is a team effort, wouldn’t be possible without the help from some amazing volunteers. One of our seagrass heroes, Bob Pethers, shared some amazing words about his experience collecting seagrass seeds in North Wales this Summer. Showing the positive impact of nature on his wellbeing: “My hope for this restoration work is t]hat it makes a difference to the health of our seas, and it will! I’ve always been concerned about the environment and nature and considered myself an environmentalist from when it really wasn’t fashionable. Now I have the opportunity to make a difference around my local shores, and the thought of thriving seagrass meadows in the future drives me forward on those cold and rainy spring tides. Being in nature enhances my physical and mental health, nothing can beat being in the moment.” #Seagrass #Oceans #Wellbeing #Volunteering Partners: NORTH WALES WILDLIFE TRUST, Swansea University, Project Seagrass, Pen Llŷn a'r Sarnau Special Area of Conservation.

Amur leopard cubs spotted one year later – all grown up! Late last year, in a first of its kind, this Amur leopard family was captured on camera trap in Northeast China Tiger Leopard National Park. And excitingly... the same three cubs were spotted again in springtime this year! The update offers hope for the recovery of the Amur leopard population in the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park, where WWF is supporting conservation efforts. 🧡

WWF-UK has written everyone a #PrescriptionForNature. The UK’s mental health is in decline. But, with nature’s help, we can thrive. With many of us facing mental health challenges, WWF are on a mission to make sure everyone can get their restorative #DailyDoseOfNature. 🍃 I was lucky growing up in Scotland, where we were surrounded by nature. I know from my travels around the world, that not everybody has that easy access to the countryside. For me, being out in nature really clears my head. I have had times in my career when I’ve felt under pressure and there’s nothing like a dog walk to make you feel better and put things into perspective. That’s why campaigns like this are so important in protecting the nature around us. Whether it’s a walk in the woods, a peaceful moment in your local community garden, or going for a chilly dip off the English coast, nature’s ability to support our emotional wellbeing has been proven time and time again.
