🗣️ Our chair Andy Wallhead on today's #AutumnBudget announcements: 'Building more affordable homes is key to both ending the #HousingCrisis and boosting economic growth in #WestYorkshire and across the country. 'This comes at a time when around 90,000 households in our region remain in urgent need of housing. 'We’re pleased to see the £500 million in new funding for the Affordable Homes Programme in today’s Budget. It’s also welcome news that Right to Buy discounts are being reduced so that thousands more social homes remain in the sector for future generations. 'But to achieve the affordable homes needed across #WestYorkshire, we need a new long-term strategy and delivery programme with a significant increase in guaranteed funding for social housing over the next decade.'

Did you miss our vice-chair Nick Atkin on the BBC? Check out his interview on how we want to work with the government to end the #HousingCrisis and why housing associations need long-term support in tomorrow’s Budget announcements 💼
Our CEO Nick Atkin has been back on the BBC airwaves to highlight why tomorrow’s Budget is the most important for some time. Why? Because there’s 150,000 people across Yorkshire on housing waiting lists. We’re playing our part by building thousands of new homes. But our region needs to increase social homes by over a third just to meet current demand - that’s the largest increase of any other region in the North. We're extremely proud to be trailblazers in our support for the Dementia Ready Task Force. With the number of people living with dementia in the UK projected to double to two million by 2050, we're committed to meeting people's changing needs when adapting our existing homes and building new ones. That's because we want to help our customers stay independent in their homes and communities for as long as possible.
This #WorldAlzheimersDay, we’re challenging the stigma around all forms of dementia. Dementia can be devastating but the home environment can play a huge part in bringing a better quality of life to people living with it, and helping their carers too. Our Dementia Ready Task Force is working to highlight the need for dementia ready housing and services across our region. As part of this, it has developed guidance on how to make our homes safer, happier and more accessible for people living with dementia. If you have a friend or family member living with dementia, read our guidance to learn about some small alterations you could make to help them. https://ow.ly/fKHE50TrBE0 #DementiaReady #WestYorkshire

Long-term funding certainty is needed for housing associations to build the affordable homes #WestYorkshire so desperately needs, and to tackle the housing crisis. We will continue to make the case for this and welcome the news that the government is reportedly planning to provide long-term rent stability as part of the Autumn Budget. #AutumnBudget #SocialHousing #UKHousing https://lnkd.in/eQ459haD

We are appalled and saddened by the recent acts of violence, racism, and Islamophobia in towns and cities across the UK. West Yorkshire is a place that has many diverse communities and welcomes people from many different backgrounds. As a Partnership we send a message of support and solidarity to those affected by the violence who now may feel unsafe in their communities. As housing organisations, we have a crucial role in fostering safe and inclusive communities. The violence we have witnessed does not reflect the values we hold, and these actions have no place in our communities. The West Yorkshire Housing Partnership takes a zero-tolerance approach towards racism and violence of any kind. We will continue to work closely together with Local Authorities, the Police and other partners to ensure the safety of our customers and colleagues during this difficult time.
