Once you start building with an immutable database, it's hard to imagine going back to modifying values in-place and losing information. It's strange that there's still no mainstream immutable cloud database for OLTP. This gap will no doubt be filled soon, and once it is filled all others will follow. Wherever we maintain data representing a timeline, we may need to correct that timeline, but we still want to do this in a non-destructive way so that no data is lost. We need: 1. A 'business' timeline that can be corrected if needed, and 2. An immutable history of all changes (a 'system' timeline that can't change). A 'bitemporal' immutable database understands these two timelines and lets us query them. In finance, there are lots of problems that are intrinsically bitemporal, and these systems can be hard to implement correctly. You might have a bitemporal shaped problem in your system. Often we send data to a data warehouse for auditing, but having this bitemporal view within the system of record is a lot more powerful. Sometimes you want to add features that make use of this bitemporal model. We'll be talking about XTDB (our own bitemporal database) and our experience building financial systems at the #FINOS 'Open Source in Finance' conference in New York, #OSFF2024: https://lnkd.in/eszTfP5c If you're based in New York and working in finance, this is a really good event. We visited FINOS London earlier this year, and it was a really good meet for the banking & fintech crowd. #regtech #fintech #OSInFinance

Today, we're really excited to have published the first public release of the #XTDB 2.x line 🚀 https://lnkd.in/e_K_G9jS The release notes contain a high-level summary of what we've been aiming to achieve with 2.x over the last couple of years, the differences to 1.x, and how to get started. If you'll permit me a moment to reflect, I'm really proud of the XT team here at JUXT (juxt.pro) - for a relatively small team to create a relatively performant, relatively complete, distributed, bitemporal #SQL database is a big achievement - well done all, and thank you 😊 🙏

The JUXT team is heading to New York in September as sponsors of #FINOS #OSFF2024! If you're in New York and working in banking or fintech, it's an excellent conference. Details here: https://lnkd.in/eszTfP5c Come by the JUXT booth to learn about our expertise building #bitemporal and auditable banking systems. We also love to talk about our own open source database #XTDB! 😁 #FINOS is a community creating and promoting open source in finance. It's part of the Linux Foundation, and similar to the CNCF but for fintech. You can check out the landscape of current projects here: https://lnkd.in/eWmYx_EJ

🚀 Calling All Developers: Contribute to TraderX Support for Bitemporal Data! 🚀 👉 Interested in contributing? Join the discussion here: https://hubs.ly/Q02JJj7Y0 🔗 Jeremy Taylor and Matt Butler from JUXT (juxt.pro)/XTDB have introduced an exciting opportunity to enhance TraderX with bitemporal database capabilities. Bitemporal databases, like XTDB, are specialized in addressing time-related business requirements efficiently, which can greatly benefit TraderX’s use cases. They’re looking for developers to share their insights on which parts and components of TraderX could leverage bitemporal data to deliver real value to end-users. 📽️ Watch the video in the GitHub discussion to learn more about the potential impact of bitemporal databases within TraderX. #OpenSource #FinancialServices #Innovation #FINOS #TraderX #BitemporalData #Database #Developers #TechSprintFINOS

Morning 👋 Today I've posted an #XTDB technical deep-dive on our "bitemporal resolution" - what it is, how it works in XT2, and how we identified and fixed an error causing us to be an order-of-magnitude out on performance when working with time-series data: https://lnkd.in/ednYxQbh Be great to get your thoughts on it in the comments 🙂
