Germany Approves to Build its Hydrogen Core Network The German Federal Network Agency, Bundesnetzagentur, has approved the proposal for Germany’s hydrogen core network. This ambitious network will span 9,040 km of new and repurposed pipelines to transport hydrogen nationwide as early as of 2025. Hydrogen network operators will take on the construction and financing, supported by the state, and recover their costs through network tariffs from users once operations begin. As an important piece of the hydrogen supply chain, this core network will facilitate global hydrogen imports to Germany, bridging large-scale import hubs and industrial end-use sites across the country. #greenhydrogen #midstream #pipeline #import

Ammonia Cracking: The Missing Link Between Hydrogen Export Hubs and European Consumers As European industrials strive to meet the RED III Industry target, which requires 42.5% (or 1.6 million tonnes) of hydrogen consumption to be replaced by RFNBOs by 2030, one critical question remains: How can hydrogen be delivered cost-effectively to refineries and factories in Northwest Europe? There are two main options on the table: 1. Import hydrogen in the form of ammonia 2. Produce and supply hydrogen onsite Given the efficiency and cost advantages, hydrogen produced overseas will likely be transported to Europe as ammonia. However, to be used as hydrogen feedstock, this ammonia must first be cracked back into hydrogen. - What is ammonia cracking? Ammonia cracking is a process that converts ammonia into hydrogen using high temperatures and pressure. While technology is well-established, scaling it up for industrial use—where large quantities of ammonia need to be processed—remains a challenge. - Why ammonia-cracked hydrogen? Even though ammonia cracking has yet to be proven on an industrial scale, it’s expected to provide a more cost-effective solution than local hydrogen production, especially in Northwest Europe (Germany, Netherlands, and Belgium) where electricity prices are high. - Location is key Ammonia crackers will likely be located at existing ammonia terminals, benefiting from established commercial activities and proximity to large hydrogen consumers, such as industrial clusters. Moreover, the availability of hydrogen pipelines connecting ports to factories will be crucial for an efficient supply chain. In summary, ammonia cracking could be the vital link in making large-scale hydrogen imports viable for Europe, helping to meet ambitious renewable energy targets while keeping costs manageable. #Cracking #GreenAmmonia #Greenhydrogen #Infrastructure

Brazil unveils multi-billion-dollar support for clean hydrogen industry The Brazilian government has taken significant steps to boost its clean hydrogen sector with two major initiatives: 1. USD 3.4 billion in tax credits for clean hydrogen producers, starting in 2028 through competitive auctions. 2. USD 1 billion investment in low-carbon hydrogen hubs to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries. Brazil's vast renewable energy resources uniquely position the country to produce clean hydrogen at competitive costs. This shift will enable Brazil to produce green ammonia, vital for decarbonizing its fertilizer industry and reducing reliance on imports. This is a game changer for Brazil as it is the 4th largest consumer of fertilizers globally but heavily dependent on foreign supply. Additionally, Brazil’s abundant biogenic CO₂ from existing bioenergy industries can unlock the potential for e-fuels production like e-methanol and e-SAF, further accelerating the country's transition to a low-carbon economy. Exciting opportunities ahead for Brazil’s hydrogen sector! #Brazil #CleanH2 #GreenAmmonia #RenewableEnergy #eFuels

From Copenhagen to New Delhi, Yamna shares its ambition for green hydrogen and ammonia to build a sustainable future 🌍🌱 Last week, Team Yamna engaged with global audiences at two impactful events across the world. Here's how we contributed to the discussion: ➡️ Our CEO Abdelaziz Yatribi and CTO Pedro Garcia Cruz took the stage at #WorldHydrogenWeek in Copenhagen. Abdelaziz gave an insightful talk on the future of global trade in green ammonia, while Pedro skillfully moderated a panel discussion on renewable hydrogen production. ➡️ Meanwhile, our India Country Head, Shailendra Bebortha, represented us at the #GH2IndiaConference in New Delhi. Shailendra delivered a key presentation on the vital role of green ammonia in the global energy transition, emphasizing its role as a hydrogen carrier to connect competitive export locations with promising offtake markets. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with like-minded industry professionals and exchange ideas about the future of green hydrogen and ammonia. Looking forward to more of inspiring moments ✨ #Yamna #impact #greenH2 #greenammonia #energytransition

EU Launches Consultation on #Lowcarbon hydrogen On September 27, 2024, the European Commission opened a 4-week consultation on a draft delegated act outlining the methodology for calculating the emission savings from low-carbon hydrogen and synthetic fuels. Under the newly adopted #EUGasPackage, hydrogen is considered "low-carbon" if it has at least 70% emissions reduction (or <3.4 kgCO2/kgH2) compared to fossil fuels, regardless of the energy source. This opens up new opportunities for hydrogen producers in the EU who were previously limited to RFNBOs to receive public support. While this is a significant step in expanding the hydrogen landscape within the EU, key questions remain regarding specific targets and support mechanisms for low-carbon hydrogen at both the EU and Member State levels. #EU #GasPackage #lowcarbonH2 #renewableH2 #delegatedact

🌍✨ Advancing our green ammonia project with the site visit in Oman! The Yamna team, alongside our Consortium partner EDF, conducted a productive site visit in the Salalah region. We explored potential locations for the project facilities in preparation for launching detailed site studies and renewable energy measurement campaign. This visit marks the beginning of the advanced project development activities, bringing us one step closer to making our large-scale #greenammonia project in Oman, with a planned capacity of 1 million tons per year. Together with our partners, EDF and J-POWER, we remain committed to advancing this landmark project and significantly contributing to Oman's ambitious renewable hydrogen strategy, further positioning the Sultanate as a leader in green hydrogen production. Earlier this year, the Consortium signed a project development agreement with Hydrom, which grants the Consortium with the exclusive right to develop, build, own, operate and maintain the project for 47 years. #Hydrom #GreenAmmonia #GreenHydrogen #RenewableEnergy #SustainableFuture #HydrogenOman #Oman #EnergyTransition #Salalah #Yamna #EDF #JPOWER #ClimateAction

The terms and conditions for the European Hydrogen Bank (#EHB)'s second renewable hydrogen auction have been published. Scheduled for later this year, the auction comes with an increased budget of €1.2 billion for renewable fuels of non-Biological origin (#RFBNO) hydrogen production within the EU and European Economic Area. While the auction design remains largely unchanged, there are notable updates, such as the introduction of a minimum local content requirement for electrolysers. 💡Here are key insights from Yamna : 1. The bid ceiling saw only a slight reduction (from €4.5 to €4/kgH2), despite receiving very low bid prices in the previous auction. This may serve as a buffer against potential price increases due to stricter conditions. 2. The timeline for commercial operation remains unchanged at five years, but a new deadline for financial close has been introduced, requiring projects to reach FC within 2.5 years of signing the grant agreement. 3. The introduction of resilience criteria for electrolyser procurement could drive up bid prices compared to the last auction, especially given the cost-competitiveness of Chinese electrolysers. However, the full impact remains uncertain, as most projects in the previous round were already planning to source electrolysers from EU manufacturers (according to the European Hydrogen Bank). #EU #InnovationFund #renewableH2 #auction
