How can a game help build sustainable organisations? Annette Gray and Paut Struik’s session at the Unconference, featuring the Mindsetter Game, provided an exciting, hands-on way to explore this question. Their workshop transformed sustainability into an interactive experience, using the game to introduce and apply solution-focused (SF) thinking to the challenges of creating sustainable organisational practices.  Participants engaged in lively discussions, strategising how SF techniques could drive real-world change. Drawing from Annette’s fascinating experiences in Antarctica, the session connected theoretical ideas to practical, environmentally sustainable actions. These real-world examples made the session even more relatable and inspired fresh perspectives on how organisations can be more sustainable. Curious to learn more? Hi everyone. This week’s highlight from the SOLWorld Unconference is Andrew Gibson’s “Best Year Ever” process. This structured Solution Focus (SF) workshop methodology helps teams and organisations create practical improvement plans, emphasising sustainability. It uses the SF Numberless Scaling technique and is both straightforward and effective. There's a PDF download to use too! See how it might benefit your team or clients’ teams by clicking on the photo below. https://lnkd.in/eaivwbAc Have a great week Annie Bordeleau and John Brooker SFiO InterAction Editors

In our latest feature in SFiO InterAction, "Collaborative Ecosystems Between Organisations", we dive into the groundbreaking work of Jonas Wells and his team, who spearhead a large collaboration among public agencies across Sweden. This initiative brings together social insurance, job centres, municipalities, and healthcare providers to tackle the complex issues faced by individuals who often slip through the cracks—particularly those dealing with unemployment, long-term health challenges, and mental health issues. Jonas has been at the forefront of this critical work since 2005, and for the past decade, he’s focused on ensuring that these partnerships are not only effective, but continuously evolving. His work shines a spotlight on how collaboration across silos can create real impact, especially for the most vulnerable in society. Hosted by Susanne Burgstaller and interviewed by Mark McKergow, Marika Tammeaid, and others, Jonas shares his experiences and insights in leading this transformative effort. His approach is deeply rooted in the principles of Solution Focus—asking the right questions, building strong partnerships with stakeholders, and zeroing in on what works to drive meaningful, sustainable change. Whether you’re curious about how large-scale collaborations can reshape public services or keen to explore the practical application of Solution Focus in complex systems, you won’t want to miss this feature. Listen or watch here: https://lnkd.in/eCZhPK-N Also, don’t forget to read Marika Tammeaid’s related article on the same page, which offers further insights into these collaborative ecosystems. While this feature isn’t part of our Unconference on Sustainability series, it is also an inspiring example of Sustainability in action! We hope you enjoy this compelling story of collaboration, innovation, and progress.  John Brooker and Annie Bordeleau  InterAction editors

Check out SFiO's latest update from the SOLWorld Sustainability Unconference: "Learning from Frameworks for Creating Sustainability and Change." This exploratory session brought together Professor Cathy Macharis and John Brooker to explore how Solution-Focused (SF) practices can strengthen sustainability frameworks in organisations. Cathy shared her Factor 8 change process, inspired by the 'iceberg' model, and was eager to explore how SF techniques could be woven into it.  Meanwhile, John introduced the Solution Focus Sustainability Model, which he co-developed with sustainability expert David Picton.  This model is a departure from most sustainability frameworks. It shifts away from the usual problem-focused mindset and offers a seven-step roadmap to elevate an organisation’s sustainability efforts—from refining its purpose to showcasing its successes. Want to learn more? Dive into the full discussion in SFiO InterAction: Read and listen here! https://lnkd.in/eh7cfwQA

How to Conduct Solution Focus Experiments - SFiO Global Chapter 25 September 2024 1100 UK / 1200 CET/1800 AEST late afternoon evening across Asia Description: In Solution Focus Practice, we often search for examples of when something worked, even a little bit. We search the past, present and the future. The present and future time frames can be made up of trying something different and seeing what happens. From the field of complex organisational change, we can learn the key factors that make for a good experiment and how to amplify what works to get more of what we want. Rod Sherwin shows us how. Hi everyone, we have two short pieces to add to the SOLWorld Unconference 24 output on SF and Sustainability in SFiO’s InterAction this week. They are a five minute read. Lien Tettelin's open space session on "Good practices in the public sector" at the SOLWorld Unconference 2024, focused on strategies for enhancing organisational sustainability. The session explored how public sector entities can integrate sustainability into their decision-making processes, develop relevant strategies and KPIs, and redefine notions of profit to encompass social benefits. Netta Jakola’s ’Seeing the connections’ provides a simple but powerful framework illustrating the essentials of sustainability for organisations. You can read them both here by selecting from the menu on the left. https://lnkd.in/dRJ4XgM

SFiO Fika Sunday, 18 August 2024, at 1000 UK/ 1100 CET and evening in Australasia. 60 minutes. Hi everyone! August’s SFiO Fika Theme: “A Little Bit Sporty” – How Did You Cope? July’s Fika threw us a curveball with a technical issue, but thanks to the quick thinking of Wendy VdB, we navigated through it. There were laughs, some lighthearted moments, and yes, we coped!  Being Solution-Focused, we’ve turned that experience into inspiration for our next Fika (shoutout to Wendy again!). In this session, we’re diving into the times when things didn’t quite go as planned in our SF practice. But with the SF “flip" – we’ll focus on how we managed and overcame those moments - how we coped. Plus, you’ll discover the story behind “a little bit sporty”. Expect the usual light-hearted atmosphere, a chance to connect with SF enthusiasts worldwide, and maybe even leave with a big, smiley photo (thanks, EdJ and Matt C!). And remember, it’s always happy hour at the Fika, so bring your favorite drink, your wit, and your sense of humour. This event is open to everyone interested in the Solution-Focused approach – you don’t need to be an SFiO contributor. Join us through this link: https://lnkd.in/ejxPHgWu Looking forward to seeing you there! John Brooker - Fika Host
