About us

YSS enables people who face significant life challenges to feel safe, have the opportunity to thrive and to realise their potential, and we have been doing so for more than thirty years. There are thousands of people in our communities who struggle with life and face what seem to be insurmountable barriers - they are why we exist. We provide a wide variety of mainly community focused support for people and are often described as the ‘glue’ between those at risk of social isolation and the wider mainstream society. We run a diverse range of services working with all ages but our aim is always the same – to help people to break through barriers (real or perceived) and to achieve their potential. Our work is rooted in the local communities we serve. We have a strong local presence and a national profile for our innovative work. We strive to ‘punch above our weight’ to ensure our voice, and the voice of our service users, is heard and to influence and inform service design and policy. Our Vision YSS seeks a society where all people feel safe, have the opportunity to thrive and to realise their potential. Our Mission YSS enables people who face significant life challenges to feel safe, have the opportunity to thrive and to realise their potential. YSS Beliefs (which underpin the services we provide) People can break through barriers to thrive and realise their potential. The best outcomes result from holistic, person centred services combined with a solution focused approach. One size does not fit all. To be effective we have to continually develop and work in partnership to improve services and increase the reach and outcomes for those with whom we work to deliver effective and joined up services. Organisations should be embedded in the local communities they serve and have an intimate knowledge and understanding of a community's assets and needs.

🚨 New UK Drink-Drive Figures: A Call to Action 🚨 Today, the Department for Transport (DfT) revealed that the number of people killed in drink-drive collisions reached a 13-year high in 2022. Between 290 and 320 lives were tragically lost, with a central estimate of 300 fatalities. This is the highest figure since 2009 and marks a significant increase from 2021, when there were 260 fatalities. Equally alarming, drink-drive incidents accounted for 18% of all road deaths in 2022 – a percentage unchanged since 1987, described by the RAC as “abhorrent.” Additionally, the number of people killed or seriously injured in these collisions rose to an estimated 1,920, a 3% increase from 2021. Overall, 6,800 individuals were killed or injured due to drink-driving, up by 1% from the previous year. At YSS , our MORSE service is dedicated to reducing these numbers and making our roads safer for everyone. Together, we can combat this issue and save lives. 🔒🚨 Yesterday We Went to Jail! 🚨 🔒 Our YSS away day was an absolute blast at the historic @Shrewsbury Prison (decommissioned in 2013). The team got a real taste of prison life—from escaping cells (escape rooms! 😅) to showing off our axe-throwing skills. The day was packed with fun, laughter, and a bit of friendly competition. But more importantly it was fabulous seeing everyone. Huge shoutout to the incredible YSS staff for bringing such positive energy and enthusiasm. Special thanks to Shrewsbury Prison for hosting this unforgettable experience. And an extra round of applause for Sean, our axe-throwing champion! 👏 We can’t wait for the next adventure! #AwayDay #TeamBuilding #Charity #YSS

🚀🤝💬 On Monday, Karen (From our MORSE team) and I had the pleasure of joining the Liaisons and Diversions (Worcestershire)morning meeting☕. We were thrilled to have the platform to promote and update their refering team on our projects: MORSE, Remember Veterans, Families First, Chrysalis, and Young Carers, all operating across Worcestershire. It was an absolute pleasure to discuss each project’s aims, outcomes, and referral criteria while also learning more about our referral partners (L&D) and how we can work closely together to support more people in need across Worcestershire. These meetings are vital for developing strong working relationships with referral partners, improving our services, identifying gaps, and enhancing the referral process for both service users and partners. #YSS #Partnerships #LocalCharity Andrew Prince-Burns

Remember Veterans 🎖 Yesterday our Senior Remember Veterans Worker lisa Burnett attended the SSAFA the Armed Forces charity AGM at the fabulous Worcester Golf Club in Malvern. Remember Veterans along with STEPWAY CIO & Kate La Barre the Armed Forces Covenant Partnership Officer gave a presentation to the SSAFA Staff who also support veterans & their families in the community. Our Remember Veterans service works alongside SSAFA to support our veterans & were delighted to be asked to talk about our service. The weather was shining, the food was lovely & it was a great chance to network & engage in positive conversations aiming to support veterans in the local area. SSAFA the Armed Forces charity are an excellent charity who will be celebrating 140 years of supporting veterans, serving & their families. One of the longest serving military charities #Veterans #armedforces #veteranscharity #localveterans #Partnerships #community
