About us

We work at all scales and in all sectors. We create transformative cultural, corporate, residential and other spaces that work in synchronicity with their surroundings. Zaha Hadid, founding partner of Zaha Hadid Architects, was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize in 2004 and is internationally known for her built, theoretical and academic work. Each of her dynamic and innovative projects builds on over thirty years of revolutionary experimentation and research in the interrelated fields of urbanism, architecture and design. Working with senior office partner Patrik Schumacher, Hadid’s interest is in the rigorous interface between architecture, landscape, and geology as the practice integrates natural topography and human-made systems that lead to experimentation with cutting-edge technologies. Such a process often results in unexpected and dynamic architectural forms.

JLand Group & ZHA to build Discovery City within Ibrahim Technopolis ZHA’s first project in Malaysia, the 582-acre Discovery City masterplan will embrace circularity and foster a symbiotic relationship between the built and natural environments JLand Group announced their pioneering collaboration with ZHA to develop the mixed-use Discovery City precinct within Ibrahim Technopolis (IBTEC), the 7,290-acre township in Johor, Malaysia. Set to become a model of environmentally conscious design integrating seamlessly with the region’s distinctive landscapes, IBTEC is planned as a major circular city within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone. With a Gross Development Value of RM27 billion, IBTEC is a key destination for strategic expansion in southern Malaysia. Zaha Hadid Architects are leading the Discovery City design, in addition to designing the centrepiece of the masterplan – the RM269 million cultural centre by ZHA will be the practice’s first building in Malaysia. HIJJAS Architects and Planners is the Local Project Architect while AJM-Planning and Urban Design Group serve as the local master planner. ZHA’s design approach for Discovery City will prioritise the integration with Johor’s natural surroundings, reflecting IBTEC’s vision of a circular city where innovation thrives. Staying true to this vision, ZHA will establish the framework for Discovery City’s ecologically sustainable architecture, together with innovations in smart city technologies, and a steadfast commitment to minimising environmental impact. By embracing circularity and fostering a symbiotic relationship between the built and natural environments, Discovery City aims to set a new benchmark for sustainable development in Malaysia. Adhering to both local and international standards, including the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation’s Low Carbon Cities Framework and LEED international certification, Discovery City will demonstrate IBTEC’s commitment to environmentally sustainable development. On Site: New photos from the construction site of the Central Bank of Iraq Headquarters in Baghdad Construction continues on the new 90,000 sq. m headquarters for the Central Bank of Iraq in Baghdad. Conveying the core values of this important national institution - resilience, stability and sustainability - the 170-metre tower is tailored to its very specific conditions within the city. Solid at its base, the bank’s structural façade gradually reduces as the tower rises above the banks of the River Tigris, peeling away in vertical layers to provide external shading to the tower’s double-insulated glazing. https://lnkd.in/ehmM7RGC

Ethiopian Airlines to build Africa’s largest airport to meet growth forecasts Design consultancy contract for new airport awarded to consortium led by DAR and ZHA.
US$6 billion phase one will serve 60 million passengers annually with further phases serving up to 110 million passengers/year. Ethiopian Airlines Group will build Africa’s largest airport in Abusera, south of the capital Addis Ababa – cementing Ethiopia’s position as the crossroads of Africa, Asia and the Middle East (the world’s most rapidly expanding sectors of air travel) with a global transportation hub for the 21st Century. Achieving more than threefold growth in past ten years and foecasting similar expansion over coming decades, Ethiopian has become Africa’s largest airline - and one of the fastest-growing airlines worldwide operating to more than 150 domestic and international destinations. A key member of Star Alliance, Ethiopian is implementing its 15-year strategic plan to become one of the leading and most competitive aviation groups in the world. Meeting IATA forecasts for East Africa of more than 200% growth over next decade, the airport at Abusera will unlock Ethiopian Airlines’ potential beyond their current base at Bole International Airport which has no possibilities for significant expansion. The new airport’s location allows for progressive growth to meet future demand, while its lower altitude will enhance aircraft performance at take-off; enabling Ethiopian Airlines to take full advantage of its ultra-modern fleet to carry more passengers and cargo to more global destinations on longer-range, non-stop flights, using less fuel. Creating thousands of new jobs to serve Ethiopian Airlines expanding customer base & fleet, the new airport will have 4 times capacity of the existing Bole airport to meet Ethiopian Airlines’ growth forecasts. With a new express rail link to centre of Addis Ababa, the airport will combine proven innovations in aviation architecture with ecologically sound materials, sustainable construction practices, on-site renewable power generation, natural ventilation & rainwater collection across the site. ZHA-EAA modular structures for displaced communities selected as finalist in AT Awards ZHA’s work with the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) to develop a modular structural system for use as schools, clinics and emergency shelters for refugee and displaced communities has been selected as an International finalist in this year’s AT Awards. Celebrating and sharing knowledge about buildings that have stood the test of time, the AT Awards consider projects that have been in use for at least three years and can demonstrate a strong track record for delivering on their functional, community, environmental and cultural ambitions. Since 2015, EAA has partnered with ZHA to build temporary learning spaces for children displaced by conflict and natural disaster, with ZHA-EAA tents used as schools for thousands of out-of-school children in Pakistan, Turkey and Syria; underscoring the foundation's commitment to providing education and shelter for vulnerable populations striving to rebuild their lives amidst conflict and displacement. Katara Village in northern Syria was built this year and consists of 30 ZHA-EAA tents. The village provides transitional housing, medical and other essential services for the increasing number of displaced in the region and includes four school classrooms that offer a safe learning environment tailored to the needs of displaced children. ZHA and EAA developed the design as a robust, cost-effective and lightweight modular architectural system with fabric envelope that is weather-proof and allows for natural daylight. Easily moved and re-assembled, the tents also incorporate components that can be upcycled or recycled, making them ideal for displaced populations. With more than 70 million people displaced in their own countries or living as international refugees, and half under the age of 18, EAA saw a critical need for suitable infrastructure that could serve as classrooms, temporary housing, and medical centres for displaced children and their families. That’s when EAA teamed up with ZHA in a joint venture to create a structure that offers safe, versatile and sustainable spaces for children to use for play, learning, and development. The Dalmore 49 Year Old Luminary No.2, “The Rare” sold for $95,277 at its Sotheby’s auction with proceeds from the sale donated to the V&A Dundee museum. Transforming Zaha Hadid Architects’ signature architectural language, director Melodie Leung and the 185-year-old distiller The Dalmore collaborated on “The Rare”: a 49-year-old Single Malt housed in a bespoke glass sculpture crafted by master glass blower Fiaz Elson. “The Rare’s design evokes the image of a full-bodied dram of whisky swirled in a glass of fine crystal, taking the material to the limits of what is possible,” explains Leung. “The piece cured inside the kiln for 12 weeks at Elson’s workshop The Glass Foundry, then was hand polished for over 500 hours before its debut at V&A Dundee. https://lnkd.in/eAj6AU_c

Masaryčka wins Rethinking The Future Award 2024 Integrating with Czech Railways’ reconstruction of the Masaryk Railway Station establishes a dialogue with the urbanism of Prague’s Old Town, known as ‘the golden city of 100 spires’. Defined by circulation routes giving access to new civic spaces and vital upgrade to an important transport hub, Masaryčka is located adjacent to the historic railway station on a derelict site that had stood abandoned for several decades. Transforming the existing car park on Havlíčkova Boulevard into new public square, creating a welcoming gateway to the city for suburban & domestic rail services and passengers using the planned airport rail link. External fins within Masaryčka’s façade transform the project’s horizontal composition along Na Florenci Street to the verticality of its western end facing the spires of the Old Town. Achieving LEED Platinum certification and meeting RIBA 2025 targets for embodied & operational carbon, Masaryčka’s design incorporates roof gardens and a triple-insulated façade that ensures optimal natural light at all work stations. Photovoltaics harvest renewable energy while natural ventilation supported by smart management systems will reduce energy consumption. Photo by boysplaynice https://lnkd.in/eHZsT4gC

The distinctive undulating forms of the Ripple outdoor sofa and side table by Zaha Hadid Architects for Serralunga are inspired by fluidity. Flowing curves and lines define a sense of movement, highlighting the sculptural quality of the ensemble.   The sofa encapsulates the dynamism of a wave arriving at the shore, gradually reducing to the smaller scale of the side table to create versatile lounging configurations. Integrated lighting within the base of the sofa illuminates the pairing in the evening.   Crafted in weather-resistant recyclable polyethylene, this bespoke outdoor arrangement is both durable and comfortable.   The Ripple outdoor sofa and table continue Zaha Hadid Architects' assimilation of seamless formal geometries with functional considerations. https://lnkd.in/eDr3UTnF
